Grading for the new Van Cleve building was begun this week and is well under way. Construction on the building will be commenced next week and rushed through to comple tion. Mr. Van Cleve expects to occupy the same by the first of October. The building will be 50x75 feet, two stories with a basement, the street floor will contain two store rooms each 24x75, the up stairs will be fitted up as a public hall, and the basement will contain living rooms. BOTH PHONES A. Rosebrook Grenwald Jensen and Vint Jones, who started of California last week, returned Tuesday after having gone as far south as Roseburg. They said they found more hot weather in the few days they were away than they ever expect to find on Yaquina bay. They say they are content to stay in Toledo forever. The steamer Truant failed to run the regular excursion to Newport last Sunday morning. She had a large crowd ready to go, but a de fect in a new pump caused that piece of machinery to fail.
