Governor West surprised us Mon day, He came upTrom Florence on horseback and we on to Newport Monday evening. The Condor came in from Port land the 13th. Cal Barnes lias opened a store at Bay View. The grange social held Saturday evening was well attended. The baskets brought in about $40. H. B. Darling, representing the Damascus creamery, has been look ing up business around Waldport. Sam Hill of Beaver Creek was -baking hands with old friends in Waldport Tuesday afternoon. W. J. Wiedman has bought 120 acres from Claus Ludemann, on the Yachats. C. F. Hall is here looking after his interests. lie is improved in health, but will spend the Summer in the Valley nest Dayton. He vis ited his brother in Canada last Fall, but tikes Lincoln county best of all. Frank Taylor was here from To-, ledo looking over the sawmill of G. S. Parmelc & Sons with a view of running it this Summer, the firm wishing someone to run the mill so they can run the donkey engine and clear up their farm and dike the tide land. When a law yer and a preacher travel together there is no telling what w:ll happen. Rufus Woo l of Chitwood has se cured the timber of F. C. Aldrich, one mile east of Eddyville, and will move his sawmill up in a few weeks. Tony Genini came up from Toledo Friday morning, but owing to a se vere attack of tho grip is unable to go to his homestead. He is stop ping at Hotel de Weltin. Linville. Siletz. Saturday, March 11 ah enthusias tic meeting was held at the M. E. church at which the Siletz Valley Oieeie Factory Company, Inc. was formally organized. The following Board of Directors was elected:' Messrs. Walter S. Hall, F. B. Church, Ralph Ilauiar, A. C. Crawford and C. S. Davis. The directors elected Walter Hall, pres ident; F. B. Church, vice presi dent, and C. S. Davis, secretary and treasurer. Eighty-four percent of the capital stock was subscribed. It is the intention to erect a com plete modern plantain! employ the jes; cheese maker procurable; it being the aim of the company to turn out tne best grade of cheese on the market, a product that will re dound to the credit of Lincoln Coun ty, t Wc sincerely hope that the Fair meeting was a success, and you can rest assured that we will lend our 1x:st elTorts toward a successful issue of same. That county league wo suggested would be a nice thing. Miss Young of Independence ar rived last week. She is to take charge of the new school in our dis trict on Upper Farm road near Vic tor Niemi's. Everybody has the garden fever 4hese nice days. Hard to keep them in the house. Superintendent Egbert expects to leave this week lor Grand Rondc to look over his charges there. ' United States Marshal Hammond -visited us this week and served a number of subpoenas on account of the Federal Grand Jury at Portland tho latter part of this month. Work on the schoolhouse is pro gressing nicely and about two days more will finish it. The board of directors certainly deserve great credit for what they have done. They have donated all the work and have neglected their own in order to see it go through in good shape. Such men as these are what counts I '.and we must give them our support. Last night's mail brought the new Hag for the school. It is four by eight, and is a beauty. Fred McWillis was visiting friends on Drift creek Sunday. Some parties from Waldport made a good catch of salmon trout here Sunday. These sunny days bring out the spoils. Frank Huntsuckcr has moved up the creek and is now boarding with Mr. Sagendorlf at the Linville pust otliee. Frank Edwards lias returned from Tillamook, where he has been working for the government. Church Notes. The program rendered by the Sabbath schools on last Sabbath is pronounced good, especially the ad dresses of Prof. Bethers and Super intendent bweanngen. Dkvknpokt, Pastor.. Miss Fernia Helms. Waldport Or. March 18, 1911. Miss Fernia Helms was called from her home and loved ones this morning to join the innumerable throng gone to our Father's keeping. She was born August 5, 1888 and left us at the age of Seventeen years and seven months. She leaves to mourn her loss, her parents, three brothers, four sisters and many, many friends. She left us in her in nocence and still bearing the sim plicity of childhood. She knew no sorrow and has escaped what most ot us sun nave to Dear, uur tears should be for the living, not for the dead. Tht band l'lat strikes the heart strings Is a hand that is divine; We connot read the music, Hut we know it is sublime. The blossom plucked in blooming Knows not a grief nor untie. S Pruner, the Nashville mer chant, bought 22,000 pounds of Mo hair in 1910. He wants !10,000 pounds this year. Vivian Cartwright of Newport was a passenger for Harrisburg Sat urday morning, having sold his in terests in the Bon Ton. Miss Esther Copeland went to Newport Saturday evening and spent Sunday with her mother, returning homo Monday morning. ' G. L. Gray of Newport is build ing an office building on his dock at that place. He will have it com pleted and ready for occupancy by the first of April. A. W. Weber of Una was in town Wednesday. W. H. Butler and family re turned Saturday evening from Walla Walla, Washington, where Mr. Butler's sister lives. A. L. McDonald of Chitwood, one of the old stand-by boosters of ' the County Fair, was here Wednesday in attendance at the Fair meeting. Tho W. R. C. will meet with Mrs. Job Arnold, Wednesday, March 22, at two o'clock. All monitors requested to be present. Mrs. Elma Hyde, President. Warren Hall, merchant of Siletz, was in this city the ore part of the week, attending a meeting of tho Lincoln County Transportation company and also a meeting of the Mutual Telephone company. Lambert Nelson of Chitwood was in town Saturday, on pleasure, bent paying his taxes. James McDonald returned Mon day evening from a business visit to Chitwood and other points. Mrs. Mike Shermer of Winant was visiting her mother, Mrs. Bailey, here bust Wednesday. Fred Dawson, tho druggest of Newport and Albany, passed down to the Resort City Saturday even ing. Alec Warnoek of Eddyville at tended the meeting of the Fair as sociation here Wednesday after noon. William Lindennan came up from Newport last Saturday morn ing, and is now doing carpenter work in this city. " Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Montgomery returned to Portland Tuesday morn ing', after a few days visit here, while Mr. Montgomery looked aft,cr bis interests here. Miss Ruth Ofstedabl, who has been the efficient bead clerk in the County Cler.Js office for the past year or more, has resigned (bat po sition. Carl Gildersleeve lias been appointed to that position. The local Woodmen lodge expect to have the biggest time in tho his tory of the local camp at their ball on the evening of the .'list. They will have' a big class initiation, when it is expected to initiate twenty or more candidates. A banquet wilt be a feature. Every Woodman in the county will be here. Olfieers from the Head Camp will visit this camp at that time. The committee is already busy arranging for tin; event. At the last meeting of the CAmp six new members were taken into the order.
