Miss Flora Mason of Albany was a Waldport visitor last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Wilson of Corvallis drove through Waldport returning from a camping trip to the Yachats. J. W. Chaffin has gone to Port land where he has been employed for a few monthB. The Wilhelmina seems to have given us the slip. It is nearly a month since her last visit to Wuld port. Charles Eamea of Ilillsboro ar rived Saturday and expects to re main until the last of October. Mi Myrtle F.. Pease recently paid us a visit in the interests of the Boys' and Girls, Aid 8ociety., , Arthur A. Brittonof Washington, D. C. has been interesting Wald port residents in some interesting publications regarding our Presi dents. W. E. Chatterlin deputy Dairy and Food Commissioner is in our vicinity encouraging those who are interested in dairying and cheese making. Hon. Jefferson Myers who is a candidate for the. office of Governor has been enjoying himself at the Yachats, Beaver Creek and Wald port. Eugene Williams, of Newport, heard' the other day that Claus Ludemann had returned from the Yachats. 'Gene accepted this as a Bignal for a short visit among us. A delightful bonfire party was given at the Fisher camp last Satur day evening. Refreshments were served and those present had the pleasure of listening to some new phonograph records. Yachats A. J. Johnson and Alex Renny of Corvallis spent a few days on the Yachats. An Indian family has gone into camp near here and will keep an eye open for the annual run of Bmelt. " ' Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Linton took a trip around the cape last week. Claude Ludemann and family have gone to Waldport for the bal ance of the season. Postmaster B; VV. Johnson of Corvallis arrived on the 16th and will spend a few days fishing. Elk City F. M. Carter made a business call the first of the week. F. C. Austin, of the Bankers' Life, is among the visitors at Hotel Elk. . Chas. Liftfields of Spokane is spending a vacation among the fish at this place. ' E. W. ,S. Pratt of Corvallis spent Sunday with his family who occupy the Pratt cottage at this burg. . F. C. Fischer of Siletz, candidate for Judge made us a call. Bert Geei is on the list for Sheriff. This will make a pair for Elk City. Col. Hofer called for dinner, and to inform us he was still among the scattering fragments of the human race for Governor. School meetings are in order in this district just now. Prof. Goin attended one the first of the week. Several of the Elk City nimrods left for the mountains the first of the week. George Van Orden of Fishers, Washington, is visiting relatives here and his former home after an absence of ten years.. C. Ofstedahl of Toledo has the contract to paint the new Bchool house building here. Dr. Handford of Corvallis is with his family at their cottage here. The woods are full of Corvallis people camping. Bill Simpson's wife left him the last of the week. Bill and the dog! look a little lonesome. J. M. Perry left for South Dakota this morning; will be gone about a month on business. He owns large funning iulciunta there and ia here for his health. Newport skinned ua at baseball last Sunday for the first time in two years' playing. Rose Lodge Everyone is praying for rain, as the crops are sadly in need of it. We were all sorry to hear of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil CoBper's departure from the mountains. They talk of returning to the Philippine Islands to remain three years. The boys of 7-9 are to play ball with the Indians at Logan bridge Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. 0. M. Dodson and grandson have started to the Valley for a visit. They will be gone ten dayB or two weeks. Harry Chitwood, a county fire warden, was here Sunday and Mon day warning people about setting out fires, burning slashings, etc. They are putting up the Kangiser sawmill now. Have your orders for lumber ready. A great many people are prepar ing to go out and pick hops. The Nelsons have just returned from a tramp around the beach from Newpor.. They say they had a lovely time. Wes. Horner killed a bear not far from his home the other day. The bears seem to be very numerous this season. Miss Helen Harding has iust re turned from a visit in 7-9. Ralph Harding cut his finger nearly off by carelessly shutting a jack knife. He has been out of school several days. Mr. Stratton and Mr. Chitwood have been staying at Mr. Dawson's for a day or so. A. Bueman left for the Valley Monday morning. He will be ab sent about four months. Three teams are hauling in the furniture for Mr. Peirce's $10,000 bungalow. The house has just been completed. Jesse Farrin's barn with all hia hay burned. Mr. Farrin was ab sent and Mrs. Farrin worked faith fully to save a pile of lumber they had nearby. Oliver Carnehnn, wife, son and daughter drove in from- Gaston to visit, the Parmele family and enjoy the fresh air for a time. They re port lota of duet in the Valley. The Gerald ' C came in with a load Friday of. last week, going out the next day. ; The steamer, Oshkosh is-due here the 22d to take the lumber that is piled on the bank of Drift river for Butler's residence in Road District No. 9, in accordance with the plans and specifications on file in the County Clerk's office. Gundcrson of tho Salvation Army paid this placo and Siletz a visit the first of the week. Mr. Gnnderson has been in Toledo sev eral times in tho past and has many friends here. J. F. Byers of Elk City was a county seat visitor hut Friday. Mr. Byers informs us that off of an acre nnd a half of ground ho has sold 185 sacks of potatoes this year, for which he received the neat sum of 841G.25. August Niemcyerof Gresham was in Toledo last Saturday. Mr. Nie? meycr has boon looking ovor thn country around Waldport and ex pressed himself as much pleaded with it. Ho expects to locate in this county soon. Ole Mikkelson from near Port land was in the city this week look' ing after his property in this vicin ity. On his return home ho took several of the posters of tho Lincoln County Fair and Festival with him and will post them up down there. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Catena of Ona wcre Toledo visitors the first of the week. Mr. Catena informs ua that he baa rented hia ranch at Ona and will move to Newport soon and en joy city life. Mr. Gatona and wife have lived on their ranch for the past twenty three years. JJ
