Died Mrs. Johnson, Jakie John
son's mother, last Wednesday.
' She was "buried on the hill over
looking the ocean, on J. W. Bones'
place. She was a pioneer here and
had many friends. The sympathy
of the community goes out to her
son and his wife, who have cared
for her for a long time.

for the mill company. He has
moved near Amon Bones' and will
work on the county road.

pany. We Kernvilleites were glad to
read in the last week's Leader of
the success of the ports at Toledo,
Newport and Alsea and are looking
forward to the time when Siletz will
have a port, for that will be the
making of our country.
Mrs. Stone got home last week from
Portland and reports a good time.
The Parmele boys are delivering
lumber to Jesse Farrin to build a
house.
Mr. Wood our, Hon. Postmaster,
went to Portland last week.
Mr. Hemstreet makes his weekly
trip from Idlewild to Taft and back
every Thursday.
The Siletz ball team is practicing
for a grand game the Fourth.

Commercial men make it lively
for Elk City Hotel these days, say
nothing of the fun they have with
the merchants. Eight of them at
one landing the other evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Reeder and
daughters returned to their home
stead Sunday, after a week's visit
with Mrs. Reeder's parents, Mr.
and Mrs, J. P. Hamar of Norton.
Mr. and Mrs. J.' R. Edwards
were made happy by the arrival of
a seven and one-half pound girl last
Wednesday, May 4th. J. R. now
wears a smile that is warranted not
to wash, wear or rub off.

will prove up on their homesteads
this month.
Ben and Charles Eastly of Hun

Miss Nelia Hamav, with the help
of her sister Julia and others, is
making a clearing on her ranch and
expects to be able to see the sky in

W. H.Canady, the photographer,
departed yesterday morning for
Eugene. He will go by way of the
beach to Florence, then over to
Eugene, and will take views along
the road. He expects to be on the
road some eight or ton days. He
will return to Toledo in about a
month.
Did we get skinned? Well rather.
Every fan in town went to Elk City
to see the big game Sunday. We
met the enemy and wo were thcir's.
Toledo has. .a bunch of good ball
players, but they lack practise and
lots of it. Elk City has some of
the best players in the country
players that could distinguish them
selves among the leaguers of the
coast and they know the game.
However it was an interesting game
from several viewpoints. Our peo
ple were, as usual, royally enter
tained by the hospitable people of
our neighboring city and we are all
going again whenever we have the
opportunity. And maybe we will
skin them a game, who knows?

T. P. Fish has had the sidewalk
on the north side of his store build
ing rebuilt, which is a great im
provement. The Fir & Spruce sawmill started
sawing yesterday morning after a
several day's shut down while they
were erecting tho new addition.
