Davis' diking dredge, Chetco, has been completed and is in operation on the Toner dike south of town. This dredger was built at the Toledo shipyard and it has taken several months to com plete. It is what is termed a clam shell diker with a capacity of three buckets of dirt, li yards each, per minute. The dirt is taken from the bottom of the river. The other day representatives from this office took a layoff for a couple of hours to go up and see this machine in operation. We found the crew busy and the engine puffing away. C, W, Davies, who has superintended the construction of the machine, is in charge. He very kindly showed us around, ex plaining all the working parts and answering all kinds of questions. We tried to appear to understand nil about the frictions, the spuds, the condensers, the trip lines, and a thousand other terms, but we didn't. All we know is' that when Mr, Davies pulled one of the several levers in the pilot house something happened.' The entire workings of the dredger is controlled by levers in tne pilot house. The barge is nicely fitted up with living rooms, kitchen, sleeping rooms, bath room, and other home like conveniences for the crew, which at present is composed of Mr. Davies, W. C. Bingham, F. B. Davies and Hugh Corgan. Mrs. Davies presides over the culinery department. This dredger has cost Dr. Davis in the neighborhood of $10,000, and is a much larger enterprise than many imagined. It will be the means of adding thousands of dol lars to the wealth of the county by its reclaiming many thousands of acres of our fertile tidelands. We are in hopes the government can see its way clear to have this ma chine dredge out the small bars in the river between this place and Yaquina. You are astonished to learn that they are mother and daughter, and you realize that a woman at forty or forty-five ought to be at her finest and fairest. Why isn't it so? The general health of woman is so in timately associated with the local health of the essentially feminine organs that there can be no red cheeks and round form where there is female weakness. Women who have suffered from . this trouble have found prompt relief and cure in the use of Dr Pierce's Favorite Prescription. It gives vigor and vitality to the organs of womanhood. . It clears - the complexion, brightens tbe yes and reddens the cheeks. No alcohol, or habit-forming drugs is contained in "Favorite Prescription." Any sick woman may consult Dr. Pierce by letter, free. Every letter is held as sacredly confidential, and answered in a plain envelope. Address t World's Dispensary Medical Association, Dr. R.V.
