DeLaurier, a former teacher at this place and Siletz, arrived last evening from Long Prairie, Minn. M r. DeLaurier may decide to again become a resident of Lin coln county. The family is stiU in the East. - The first excursion over the C. & E from Albany to Newport last Sun day was well patronized. Seven coaches being required to carry the crowd. The day at the beach was ideal and the excursionists were all repaid for their trip. Wednesday, Thursday anil Friday of next week well be he'd thc an nual county teachers' institute at the school house in Toledo, don't BASEBALL. Last Saturday one of the fastest games of baseball ever played in the county was played on the Toledo diamond between the Newport junior and Toledo junior teams. The teams were very evenly matched and splendid work was done by bot h teams. The game was played in less than one hours time, the score standing 4 to 3 in favor of Toledo. A large delegation of fans came up from Newport with their team and the way they rooted wasn't slow. A large numlier of Toledo fans at tended the game and kept up their end of the rootin'. The boys should feel encouraged by the patronage that they received, (the gate receipts amounted to some 25 dollaio) and keep on playing. A return game will be played on the Newport grounds next Saturday. Following is the lineup. Crosno re ceived a telegram from Congress man Hawley stating that the War Department had approved and ac cepted the plans for the Olalla dam Sunday the Siletz and Toledo teams crossed bats on the Toledo ground. Toledo had the best of the game until the first half of the ninth inning, score standing 7 to 8 in favor of Toledo, when several costly errors were made giving the game to the Siletz boys by a score of 12 to 8. Mr. Cooper will keep in touch with this place and ns soon as the company thinks there will be business enough here to justify, or as Boon as this town has electric power, the station will lie built. The company has just recently in stalled a station at Eugene. The ball game at Elk City Sun day between Newport and Elk City resulted in a victory for Elk City by a score of 5 to 3. This leaves thc championship of the county be tween Siletz ami Elk City unless thc Toledo and Newport junior teams butt-in. We were unable to secure the lineup.
