Manager Daly of the Waldport Lumber Company has been in Cor vallis for some time on business. Two editions of the Newport Mail came out under date of Feb ruary 25th. The last one evidently intended for March 4th. Looks like an attempt to k eep Taft from being inaugurated. Elmer Helms vis ited his Yachats ranch last week to look after his live stock. He has selected out a few of the best for butchering. H. F. Hagah has retuined from a business trip to Denver. He spent most of the winter in that locality where he shipped a large quanity of choice chinook salmon which he sold in the local markets. At this date there are sixty-four pupils attending the Waldport school. This is pretty good for a small town. The directors have been called on to fnrnish more seats. Mr. Newton Davis has gone to Portland for the purpose of filing on a homestead located near the Eckman slough. The grounds could also be improved in such a way as to add greatly to the beauty of the build ing. Prehaps these improvements can be made during the coming Bummer. Wm. H. Wann returned Friday from an extended trip to Salem and other Valley points. Mr. Wann combined business and pleasure during his stay so as to be able to spend a few days with his people who are now residing at Salem. A basket social is being arranged for the 26th. The object is to raise funds for the purpose of buy ing maps, charts, etc. for the local school. The children always take an interest in these socials and aside from the pleasure of the occa sion they feel like their assistance has helped to make their school room more complete.
