When we get a few good roads that can be used in winter we will liave creameries and cheese factor ies, and as the number of good! roads increase so will the number of creameries and cheese factories in-' orease, likewise the bank accounts f our farmers. From the many pretests coming in from different sections of the ounty against the increasing of the salaries of the county officials, it is llainly evident that the people are not ready to increase the salaries. We will probably j?et our timber cruised this Summer, then we can ,erds t" sc and better salanes, and all will be ''ppy- i Considerable comment has been made over the arrest and fining of Dr. Berry, the dentist of Newport. 1 We see but little in the matter for! comment. The Doctor admitted breaking a law when he pleaded guilty and paid the fine. As to whether the present dental law is a good one or not cuts no figure in the case. As long as we have the law on our statutes the law should be upheld and enforced; if it is a poor law have it repealed. The Legis lature of 1887 passed a law which was approved in February by the Governor, and it was ammended in 1905 requiring all persons before opening a dental office within the state to pass a satisfactory examin ation before a board of dental ex aminers, consisting of five duly! qualified dentists selected by the I Governor, "whose duty it shall be! to require of each applicant that they do certain kinds of dental work before them, such as inserting gold, hilver and other kinds of fillings, the placing of gold and porcelain crowns, making different kinds of artificial plates, or false teeth, com monly called, and gold bridges, and a written examination of the appli cant's knowledge of the diseases of the teeth and mouth also the medi cines used both constitutionally and locally for the effective treatment and healing of the affliction ; and when, in the judgment of the State Jxmru ol Dental Jixaminers, the npphcant is duly qualified a state license is issued, nnd any person receiving a license must record the same with the county clerk of the county in which they wish to open an office. Now, we can see nothing unfair or unjust in this law, which is certainly in the interest of better dental service. How often in the Kist have the people of this county received miserable service on their j teeth by persons coming here who were not proporly qualified. This law is intended to stop such prac tice. It is an easy matter for a dentist to comply with this law. All that is necessary for one to as- certain if a dentist is holding a . jicense is to appiy 10 uie county clerk. If the license is registered the dentist is entitled to practice. If not, he should be reported to the President of the State Board of Dental Examiners at Portland .
