Suggestions for Country Life Commission. At a meeting of the agricultural faculty of the Oregon Agricultural College on Novemlter 30th, the re quest of President Roosevelt's Country Life Commission for" sug gestions that might aid the Commis sion in making its report was dis cussed and the following statement prepared : If federal appropriations are to be made for improving social and economic conditions in rural com munities, it is recommended, first, that they be made to the existing high schools and normal schools for the purpose of maintaining courses of Instruction- in agricultural, in dustrial and domestic arts, and including business methods and home sanitation, so that all public school teachers may have the train ing necessary for teaching those subjects in the public schools. Second, that in order to secure the full efficiency of the agricultur al colleges and experiment stations, the national government should co operate with the states in agricul tural extcliniuii Hulk, tliio vvuik to be under the direct supervision of the agricultural colleges. With an adequate appropriation a compre hensive system of traveling agricul tural schools, farmers' institutes and free circulating libraries could be maintained, mid publications issued for free distribution so that all important discoveries of the ex periment stations could be given to every farmer of every state. - BEWARE OF FREQUENT COLDS.
