Chief of Police Rein and Night
watch Munkers, having their sus
picions aroused mode a raid on the
"Near Beer" shop in the Schlosser
building on Ferry street, and be
sides the stock of near beer on hand
they found a large supply of the
real article, including four one-gallon
kegs, one full barrel and three
half barrels of bottle beer. The
capture included a large supply of
empty bottles and wiloon glasses.
The officers arrested the proprietor,
James Blackburn, and his barten
der, Frank Patterson. Sheriff
Smith and City Officer Fox while
Chief of Police Reis was looking the
Blackburn place, searched the Fash
inn Livery Stables and found a full
barrel of bottle beer and another
barrel half full, with enough empty
bottles on the floor to exactly fill
the barrel. No arrests were made
in this place as the proprietor, Al
lert Peacock, was out of the city,
driving on a livery trip, but a war
rant was issued and he will be ar
rested upon his return . No whiskey
was found in either place. The ar
ticles seized were taken to the Re

atterson placed under Kinds. The
accused men were arraigned before
Recorder Redfield today and given
until 1 p. m. on Monday to plead.

Oregon City had the unique ex
perience last week of having its
city pound buillding and fences
mysterously disappear. The Port
land bank robljery fades in com
parison along side of this startling
incident. The City Council of Ore
gon City is quite anxious, and will
greatly appreciate any information
leading to its whereabouts and re
covery, or if any one has seen it
they would be pleased to know
which way it was going when last
seen.
