Eight apples measureing 40 inch es; beets and mangolds weighing over twenty pounds each;, rye 1 I feet high; potatoes weighing pounds; squash (" pounds;, barley, millet and oats, to say nothing of eoal samples from a vein three feet wide near Yaquina, are some of the lluieseeke's' lulition, which con exhibits from the Lincoln Countv i Lains an extended report from all Fair held last week in Toledo display at the store of Sk' Sichel J w , on Third street opinisite the Cham- j her of Commerce. These exhihits were acquired by Colonel Frank J. J'arker wlio visited the fair hist week, and he telegraphed William .Me .Murray, of tlie Southern Pacific, with the idea that the "Land of Noil" was wide awake, lie re ceived the reply to send the pro ducts of Lincoln County along, which was accordingly done. A .stand was built in the window and since the curtain was withdrawn big crowds have assembled day and night around the display. A very handsome and well gotten up booklet issued by the Southern Pacific, devoted exclusively to Lin coln county, is issued free to all applicants, and to show the interest in Lincoln county Mr. Sichel says that nearly one thousand have been distributed. The exhibit is well worth seeing, and shows that the articles in the Oregouian and else where have lorne fruit and that a new era is dawning in Liuciiln county. With a hi il road running from east to west clear to the Paci fic ocean, land to be acquired for a mere nominal sum, soil productive beyond belief, no irrigation required no insect, jx-sts to annoy the fruit raiser, no malaria and a climate where health reigns supreme, green fields the year around, where berries and small fruits do well, the coun try has been backward. In the mean time adjoining counties, with no railroads are rich, yet have not one-half the, ad vantages of Lincoln, county, which tends to prove the truth of that old adage that "suc (jess depends more upon the people DEALER IN GENERAL MERCHANDISE HIGH GRADE ORGANS, TALKING MACHINES, AND SUPPLIES THE MATTHEWS MUSIC CO. CAPT. GEO. TVLER, Manager Agf rts for the WHITE SEWING MACHINES than upon the country." This may he explained to a great degree hy the fact that for the last quarter of a century the hinds have heen tied up hy the railroad land grant, hut that heing now a thing of the past, there is both railroad ft n 1 jjnvovnnient hind to c hail for a nominal sum and the mere settle ment and compliance with the United States land laws. In fact Oregon probably gets more atteiiti.m than any other two states. This is true because the state is better organized, doing belter advertising, has more good pictures and has learned how to present its resources and attrac tions belter than any other state in the Union. No more beautiful publication has been issued in Oregon than the one just from the press which gives most graphically the resources and attractions of Lincoln county. It, is issued jointly by the commercial bodies of Newport, Toledo, Elk City and Waldixirt, and its central illustration is a bathing scene at Newjxirt the beach there rs unex celled on the Pi'cific Coast. The great draw bridge across the Willamette river, built jointly by the Great Northern and Northern Pacific, Railways and having the largest draw span of any bridge in the world, is a success. Work trains testing tlie bridge have pas sed to and fro for several dayB. Producers of fine fruits through out the Northwest, and particularly those of Oregon, fully appreciate the help they are receiving from Portland merchants, who give up thejr show windows for a display of these products. Exhibits from Mosier and Lincoln county, Oregon, and Lcwiston, Idaho have attracted much attention the past week. Apsley's dry Stewart 'a Store. shod rubbers at ToLEsaEGoN T)1I .
