Among the other things that the district lKiundary lxiard did at its s"ssi(m Wednesday was to appoint Sheriff .1. II. Puss as truant officer for the entire county. So it will Ik? well for all children between the ages of 9 and 1 1 to attend school,, fur if they don't they will surely hear from him. The law plainly states that all children Mween and including those ages must attend school. In the oast the trti;mt ,(,,... i . , , , "Hirers who were appointed refused ,,, u,.,.,i i , xr,. , to solved, but Mr. Iloss wishes .to see the young ones olny the law as well as the older ones. So if there are any childen in the ei)unly who have in the past been in" school only u portion of the time, or in one day and out the next, they may decide to attend regularly from now on, as the law will be enforced. The people asked 'Y'vc El,t U for the morning and evening train; u- they got the mid-day train. There is a horrible suspicion that in the far distant future Sir Thomas Lipton and Col. Wm. J. George Nolan, a ' Democrat of Klamath Falls, has been appointed by Governor Chamberlain to succeed Judge Benson of the First Judicial ' District. Let's see, how many Re publieians has our non-partisan Governor appointed to oilicc during j his term? But of course there : is no politics in any of these offices. Down at Coquille they seem to go after Holy Rollers in a more sensi ble way than they did in this and Benton counties. The mother of a 1 (5-year-old girl, who had been in duced to burn her clothes and jewel ry by a holy roller, went after the so called sanctified one with a horse whip. The Holy Roller then took a hike and hasn't returned. The Corvallis Times has changed hands, B. F. And we know the general feeling I in Newport is the same. ! We cannot see one advantage I tn this country in having I the noon train, hut we can see many disadvantages. It will cause the people living down the river to lose two days in attending business at the county seat, and the people living up the river will have to stay from 10 or 11 o'clock one day till 1 or 5 in the afternoon of the next day in Toledo when transacting a little business here.
