No, sir I And when you do the people take jthe gift, and say to themselves, "bait," and "we are paying for this you can bet." The men who are running the catalogue houses are successful busi ness men. If they thought gifts, donations or premiums were busi-1 ness getters, they would use them. But they don't they Advertise. In fact many of the cheap "farm and home" magazines are owned by the big mail order houses, and published for no other purpose than to distribute their advertising. What are you doing to counter act this steady stream of carefully prepared literature that is striking directly at your business? The best, the only method, is to fight them with their own weapon adver tising. The best way to advertise is to place an ad in your local paper. , It goes right into the people's homes, right along with the catalogue ad vertising. And it goes quicker and cheaper than it . can be done any other way. Yes, people do read advertise ments. That's what you are doing now. For Sale. Good milch cows and bees, at, Julia Kynistons. Council on motion adjourned. Otto O. Kroostad, Recorder. Development League. The regular meeting of the To ledo Development League will be held next Tuesday evening, the 25th. Much business of importance will come before this meeting. The railroad will take off one of the daily trains the middle of Sep tember. In Newport parties are circulating a petition asking the j authorities to keep the mid-day trains, and discontinue the morning and evening tains. This would make it necessary for our trainmen to move from Yaquina to Albany. And if the S. P. and Westside trains don't change their time tables we will have no out side connections and it will consume two days for our people on the Bay to .reach Independence, Monmouth, Salem and other Valley points. The time is abort and this meet ing of the League will be' bur last opportunity to publicly discuss this matter and take united action, if we have any choice in the matter. We must also make our Carnival a success and to do so the various committees must get a move on themselves. So come out Bure.
