Kroi?stad. mi I Railroad Land Grants. A. W. Latterly, the well known attorney of Portland sends us the following in regard to the railroad land grants: "Right now is the time for any one honestly desiring to make a home out of 1G0 acres of the 0. & C. railroad grant lands to move on to the same. The government Buit will be filed in about two weeks, claiming a forfeiture to the United States, and it will then be too late for anvone to settle under the oriff- unal Acts of Congress', providing for the sale of the lands to actual set tlers at $2.50 per acre, by the rail road. But the, government cannot get a decree forfeiting to the United States any particular 1G0 acres that may be settled on in good faith prior to the date the government 6hall file its suit. On the other hand the government is bound to establish the right of the settler to have such tract of land, providing the government shall win its suit. Any persons who will make set tlement before the government suit shall be filed will win, if the gov ernment wins', and will lose if the rfnvornrnATit loops Any Tr TTlPn who really wants a home can afford to take the chance. But no person simply expecting to make a pretence of settlement, without actually in tending to appropriate the land as a real home, should make the attempt, or he would be acting dishonestly if he did. "The application to purchase these made by" persons not actually settled on the land amount to noth ing whatever. " Town for Exclusive Fifty. Fifty of Seattle's wealthiest citi zens, who are also leaders in the club and social life of the city, have begun the erection of an ideal residence city on the shore of Pugct Sound. Membership is limited to fifty and the initiation fee is placed at $2500. The oruanization will own its water, lighting and other public utility systems'. According to the statement of Vice-President II. V. Treat, the builders of the town propose to have the kind of neigh bors they want and no others. It will be difficult, he says, to get into the organization, and it will be impossible for a member to sell his membership without the consent of the others.
