The lady friends of the band gave a strawberry supper Saturday even ing at the dance and the coffers of the band benefitted thereby. The logging operations of J. D. Kent have been 'suspended on ac count of a dispute with the Wald port Lumber Company. Just when work will be resumed is not known. Justice of the Peace Wakefield was busy Saturday with a case aris ing over a school election dispute. We are told that a small fine was imposed. The voting contest for the honor of Goddess of Liberty will close Saturday night. Considerable in terest is being taken and Miss Liz zie Ronkosky leads by a small ma jority with 750 votes. Claus Ludemann opened his new establishment Saturday evening. Claus opened the doors and every thing was free. The billiard table and box ball alley were in constant use during the evening. W. E. Ball, the Assessor, has been making a thorough canvass cf this community the past few days. He is a booster at that business. Mrs. Kate Babcock of Salem was visiting Mrs. J. E. Wilson and Mrs. Emma Wood the past week. They are relatives. Hart & Wood are slicing up a fine lot of logs with their DeLoche sawmill and are turning out Bome fine lumber. Now is the time to build. J. E. Wilson, the nurseryman, has an order for two carloads of Oregon moss, to be baled and ship ped to San Francisco. He will need lots of help. The bears are scouting around- of late in the vicinity of Simpson creek, so the sheep men are expect ing to unite and put up a fight on Mr. Bruin in the near future. For Sale.
