Two Hundred Dollars will be given as prizes to winning contes- English walnuts have become the prevailing fad in the line of tree planting in many parts of the Wil 1 iinette valley, where the prut.e naze held sway 15 to 20 years ago, and many prune trees are being up rooted to make room for those pro ducing the toothsome nut, says the Portland Telegram The walnut tree begins to bear in the fourth year, and is supposed to become profitable the sixth, al though it is generally understood that the grower must wait 10 to 12 years for the best returns. After the tenth year the business of wal nut growing is said to pay tatter than any other agricultural enter prise in the state. The trees to be set out in the tract in question are to be three years old, and so are to begin to pay for the trouble and ex pense within three or four years of the time of planting.
