Last Sunday the town of Vici, j Oklahoma, was ecmpletly destroyed , ly a tornado. The storm which ; was aliout a mile wide and extended for fifty miles destroyed lives and property all along its course. Why will people continue to live in such n country? Why not come to ' Yaquina Bay where they can live in , jH-'ace and contentment? Street paving and hard surface paving of the metropolitan type has become the rule throughout the cities and towns of Oregon. Many hundred thousands of dollars will lie invested in hard surface pave ments in Oregon, outside of Port-' land, and during the present season i Portland is doing more paving than at any time in her history. j .. .. . Never in the history of the state has there lxen such a spirit of lioosting for the home town as at present. Nearly every town and city in the state has development league or commercial club which is working for the advancement of the town and community. Tlicy are advertising to the world the advan tages their community has to offer. , Oregon people are just beginning to j waken to the fact that Oregon is the best state in the Union and has' more opportunities to offer than any ' other. We need more people and I we will surely get them if this! spirit continues. Put we are guessing that he will need more than mere nerve to land the office. Notoriety is undoubtedly till such a candidate is hunting as nobody will take such a candidacy seriously. "Not Very Important." The Pendleton Tribune takes this view of the senatorial situation: ''The Portland Journal, under the aliove hcadine. asserts that it. is nut. i a matter of any particular moment as to what party a senator of the United .States lielongs, "partisan ship docs not count for or against a s.'iia'.or now as much as it did a few veais ago." "Sure not, Mike! When run ning for governor our non-partisan (i.-orgo fooled a part of the Repub licans by declaring that there is no Hilics in the governor's office merely an executive function is only required to enforce the laws, that is all. "And now that he is running for! s tiator, he declares in the most non-paitisan manner in the world that there is no polities in the ig nition he is after 'not like there; Used to be!' i "The democrats are all supposed to vote for Chamberlain to a man in order to show their independence of 'party' ( !), while the republicans are expected to show their rnn- partisansbip by voting for hini t o! . "And the republican who will Iwj fooled by this transparent clap-trap should be taken out and treated for , the simples."
