Whether we are better or worse than our fathers is open tJ dispute, but there is no doubt that domestic animals of all kinds are advancing at a rapid ratio. Tho horse's trotting record has gone down steadily from the minutes until now it is under two, and the average farm horse, chicken and dog are ahead of the last generation or any preceeding generation. And yet they -have not gone to school or college. Butter is going up all the time, but so is tbe cow. Iu Wisconsin a IIolstein-Friesian cow has produced 2G0 pounds of butter in sixty dys. For the uninformed we remark that that beats the world's record by forty pounds. If the milk that cow produced had been sold for five cents a quart, the return to tbe owuer in sixty days would have been $133.- Ex. Not the Aggressor. There had boon a railway accideut near the town, and a shrewd lawyer had hurried to the scene of the disaster. He noticed an old negro with a badly injured head, and hurried to where he lay moaning on tho ground. "How about damages?" he began. But tbe sufferer waved him off. "G'way boss, g'way,'! ,he said; "Ah nebber hit the train; ah nebbor done such a tin' in all man life; yo' cay n't get no danjHges out of me." C. C. McBride of Albany is in the city today.
