Ross in Atlantic. Living In Coral Houses. The chun-h built of coral is one of the curiosities of tho Isle of Mahe, one of tha Seychelles Islands, In the Indian ocean. The Seychelles Islands, which are supposed by many to be the site of the Iidcn of the Old Testament, 01111 uu iiviiiiicl.iL.o ul 114 ioiauuo uud are situated about 1,400 miles east of j Aden and 1,000 miles of Zanzibar. They rise steeply out of the sea, culmi nating In tlie Isle of Mahe, which U about b',000 feet f bot e the level of tho ocean and is uea'ly the center of the group. All these Islands are of coral growth. The houses are built of a species of massive coral hewed lute square blocks, which glisten like white marble and show themselves to the Utmost advautngc In the vnrlous tinted green of the thick tropical palms, whose immeusn fernlike leaves give pleasaut and much needed shade. These palms grow as hlh as 100 feet or more, overtopping both the houses and the coral built chureh. They Hue the sea shore nud cover tho mountains, form ing In many places extensive forests. The Dor In R of Glass, Strong glass plates are bored through by means of rotating brass tubes of the . necessary diameter, which are filled with water during boring. To the water them Is added fiuely pul verised emery. It is said that thinner glass can be perforated with holes in an easier manner by pressing a disk of wet clay upon the glass and making a hole through the clay of tho widths desired, so that at that spot the glass Is laid bare. Then molten lead is poured into the hole, audlea'd and glass drop down at once. This method Is based upon the quick local heat ing of the glass,' whereby It obtains a circular crack, the outline of which cor responds to the outline of tho hole made In the clay. The cutting of glass tubes, cylinders, etc., In factories is based upon the same principle. NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION. . U.S. Land Oflice, Koseburg, Oregon, . November 7, 1906.
