I hereby announce myself as a caudi date for the nomination for Justice of the Peace for Toledo precinct, subject to the decision of the Republican voters at tbe coming primary. ' William W. Socle. The State Treasury. Now that tbe primary campaign is about closed, it is pertinent to call the attention of voters to the situation so far as the nomination of State Treas urer is concerned. Considering the fact that the bulk of the population of the state is located in Multnomah and adjoining counties, it must be appareut to any one that whoever gets the largest vote in that section will surely have a great ad vantage in the race. Most of tbe counties, if not all. have been expecting to get their full share of support in Multnomah county, which, with what they could obtain iu the interior counties, would pull them .ahead of their competitors. There is no question whatever, but what tbe bulk of tbe vote in that part of tbe state will be divided betweeu Steel of Clackamus county, and Hoyt, a banker, of Multnomah. The lines now drawn between these leading can didates is practically "The Banks vs The People." It appears that the banking combination is making a de termined effort to get control of the treasury; while tbe masses are lining up against the proposition. The candidates from the remote part of the state will probably get a good support at home, but the vote at the best is Bmull compared with that in the northern counties, and they will be greatly surprised at tbe result there. As stated before, they will find that it will mostly go to Steel aud Hoyt, thus easily putting them in the lead. Under bucIi circumstances the public can. take its choice between the two candidates, unless it does not care who wins, aud throw its vote away by casting it for a frieud. It would therefore seem advis able to vote for one or the other of these two men, if the voters wish to make their vole couut. "II. M.
