The great wind cave has the form ol an eight story house, each story, 01 stratum, containing a distinct forma tion of Its own and each containing chambers of a size and magnificence of decoration such as have never been found in any subterranean cavern of the world. It Is a dream, a nightuare, a vision, carved in solid stone under the- greet hills of Dakota, stone as white as the milk the hired man uBed to give us U drink In the dawn of a happy June morning, stone as red as the heart ol the first bloodroot that you dug in the spring when the world was all spring to you and stone that is blue with a blue that all the painters who have ever painted Venice have tried to get for generations and have failed. Frozen fountains are there, white with the leaping foam of untold ages, sculptured cats and horses and great monsters to be dreamed about o' nights and feared In dark corners In the daytime, organs built 'by the hands of giant gnomes for a Titan tc play wild hymns of pralRe upon, s kitchen for the cooking of weird dishes never thought of up here in the sun shine, all manner and all kinds of rooms, ninety miles of them, down there under the hoofs of the gallant little range horses who pound the grass Into hay the year round, up there In South Dakota. ICE FOR HEATING. On of the Oddltlea of Oar Modern Civilisation. The use of Ice for heating purpose Is one of the oddities of our modern civilization. Often It happens that a train carrying fruit from the south to the northern market encounters a cold spell while en route. If the tempera ture goes below a certain point the per ishable merchandise will be ruined. But such a misfortune may be prevent ed by covering the fruit car with a coat of Ice, a thing easily accomplished by turning a hose upon It and allowing the water to freeze until the whole ve hicle Is enveloped In a glassy and glit tering blanket. It may, indeed, be appropriately call ed a blanket, Inasmuch as It prevents the radiation of heat from the Interior of the car. The Ice being a jgood non conductor the warmth Is retained and the fruit, or possibly it may be vegeta bles, goes on its way unspoiled even by zero weather. Cars used for transporting oranges and other fruit from California to the east are often provided nowadays with large cylindrical "Ice stoves," as they might be called, at each end, which, while useful In summer time for re frigeration, are filled with Ice during a cold spell in winter. When the tern perature outside Is at zero or below, the Ice, at 82 degrees F., is compara tively warm, and thus the "stoves" de scribed act as heaters. Grent Scheme. "lie makes love to summer girls In the winter time and to winter girls In the summer." . "What's the Idea V "Thinks they come a little cheaper when theylre out of season." Cleve land Leader. Powerful fielpa. "I have -given up smoking." "Why, you tried before you were married to give It up, and you couldn't" "I had no wife and mother4n-Iaw to help me then."-Houston Post. Moner In It. Artlnelal Hoaea, Month Forraera and Dimple Dent'era. The best artificial noses nowadays are made of papier macbe, enameled. Such a nose Is fastened to a spectacle frame sometimes for the sake of con venience jind thus may be put on or re moved at brief notice. There Is a patented contrivance: somewhat resembling a clothespin, foi attachment tff the nose to give to the organ a proper taper. Another device Is supposed to improve the lines of the mouth. Not a few people have no roofs to their mouths, having been born with out any, or in other cases having 'lost them by disease. For such unfortu nates artificial mouth roofs made of galvanized rubber are furnished. There is a patented device for clean ing the tongue, consisting of a knife with a concave edge to which a sort of sponge brush is attached. When one Is not well one's tongue is liable to be disagreeably coated, but the annoy ance may te removed by means of the Instrument described. If you desire dimples you may weai a certain kind of wire mask at night to which are attached blunt wooden points that may be caused by the help of screws to press upon tie points where the dimples are wanted. Thus after awhile the dimples are made to appear. An Old Kngllah Law. An act of parliament, passed in the reign of George III. and which is etlll In force, exempts members of the yeo- liiuiiiy fiuui the ballot for Uc militia, allows tbem to ride through a toll bar when In uniform without paying and also relieves them from the tax on powder for the hair. Such privileges were highly valued In 1804, when the act was passed; but, as yeomen are not now liable for the militia ballot, as toll bars have been abolished- and as hair powder is no longer In request, these favors have ceased to have any practical value. Nevertheless, they still exist. London Mail. A Humble Archblahop. Wlllegis, a famous archbishop of Mcntz, rose to that elevated position from the very lowest ranks. lie was the son of a poor carter, but was never ashamed of his parentage. He not only caused the following Inscription to be placed conspicuously in his palace, "Wlllegls, remember thy parentage,' but -had the wheels of a cart hung up In the Cathedral of Mentz. From that time to thin the arms of the see have borne the figure of a cart wheel.
