Lincoln County Leader. ! 'ffx ws&r1 f-!i l tj m; b tc r i ! Official County Paper.j Kmered at the piwinfllre at Toldo, Oregon, m : fecund-vlasti mail matter. n SUBSCRIPTION RAVES One ear - Six Months fdiree Month - iJi The Next Campaign. Political warfare at tiie general elec tion of Oregon will commence much earlier hereafter than was the case be fore the direct primary nominations !hw was passed for. the act provides that there shall be a primary election 13 days before the general election, says the Evening Teieram. The nest primaries in this state will be held in April or lyOC. The campaign will be i;in much earlier, for the candidates will have to make themselves solid with the people many days before the primaries. Hence it is not at all unlikely that there w ill be. campaigners among the people as early as February, while in March the wooda will bo full of them. In the Rood old days when the conven tions did ihe work there was nothing to do other than tq elect the delegates. The candidates were still in the back ground. The. conventions were hadd about a mouth before tho day of the election, and the actual campaign on the part of the candidate did not begin Until after the, nominations had been juude by the convention. I!ut uow thase days are of, yore and the candidate who hopes to be the .ioiuineo of hiti.purty by the vote Ht the primaries must sally forth upon, the uhjhwuys and byways early in the jIHine. Yea, before tho last q Winter's mi hie train has. melted into the view los air. There will be fences to build, signatures to jfo.t, support to rustle from tUe t:eat plains of voters. Indeed, he will be a busy man, and if he is success ful at the primaries he must do it all over again and convince the populace that the nominees of the opposite po litical primaries are inferior to him. Wherefore ho must battle for ollice from the break of tho cold, bleak, luonths until the torrid rays of advuue ni5 summer slant across his fevered, brow. TrueA it seems that the direct prim wry nominations law was not mude for the comfort of the man w ho wants to till tho people's otHces., Will (i. Gilstrap is no. longer editor uud half owner of the Eugene Regis ter, having sold his interest to Earl G. Mavis and O. W. Rriajs of Paw Paw, Illinois, his brother, W. F., retaiuing the other half. The retiring editor has helped to make the register the best newspaper on the coast -in cities of Eugene's class, uud he will bo missed, even though his successors keep the Register up to its present high standard. Big Preachers for Fair Services Leading exponents of various creeds w.ill speak at fhe Sunday services at the Lewis and. Clark Exposition, which tire held in the .
