How do you size up to it? 3.E3S3232E The Best Things to Eat and Wear Chairman Mark flanna of the Xa tioual Republican Committee has called ' the Republican National Convention to meet in Chicago, Tuesday, Juue 21. Reports of more floods, blizzards and extremely cold waves iu the highly favored east, emphasize the fact.Oregon is just about all riht-especially the Coast counties, of which Lincoln county is tho leader. Johu L. Webster of Nebraska may be chosen ns Roosevelt's running mate iu the eoniing Presidential campaign. He is a good man, and Webster is a good name one that smacks of statesman thin and other qualifications. Governor Chamberlain of Oregon is being boomed for the Presidency, the Vice Presidency, and perjiaps lesser honors, but the boom is harmless. The Governor can stand that kind of taffy nd retire to private life very gracefully when bis present term expires. Some of Portland's enterprising citi zens appear to have adopted a novel method of doubling their cash on hand. A man goes into a gambling house, loses his pile, and then brings suit agaiust the gambling house proprietor to re cover double the amount lost, as pro vided by law. Great scheme. A city ordinance of Portland compels all children under 15 years of age to be at their homes after 8 p. m. If found "at large" after that hour their parents will be subject to a fine of $10. It is a good ordiiiHnce and wholly in the inter est of the dear children. It may save theiu from being kiduaped and held for ransom by porno of the many lawless characters in the city who are becom ing weary, doubtlpss, of light roturus from the hold-up business. According to the Government engi neers who "investigated" the matter, Yaquina harbor is unworthy of further improvement because of a shortage of commerco. According to authors of Kommercu, Yaquina harbor cannot be profitably utilized for commerce until tit ted for tho same in the usual man ner, by the Government. We appear to be temporarily stationary, but the outside world is asked to remember Unit wo still haveau inexhaustible sup supply of choice clauis. Mark Hanna still insists thit ho will not be tho Republican candidate for P resident; Rryau declares that no gold Democrat can get the uominatiou, and the gold Democrats stoutly assert that neither Bryan nor any other Kansas City platform limn will bo the choice of the Democratic convention. Other po litical news which is important, if true is that Joe binion doesu't wish to be returned to the United States Sen ate. However, there are a fe;v men from Missouri in this neck o' woods. Senator Burtou of Kansas has also been indicted by the Federal Grand Jury, on a charge vX bribery. It is to comforting to know that Oregon is not the- only state that contains snore or less distinguished citi zens who are not ubove sus picion, i Up to date, our Congressional delegation stands ns a toweriug monu ment of integrity, but malicious politi ciansuuda Federal Grand Jury may yet pluee oue or all of them under a cloud. That brand of politics socms to be irettiui; busy. ' - Team and Wagon Stool range, 22 goats and 8 head of cat tle, for sale cheap. L. II. Pkhkixs. EdJyville, Oregon. Want a Piano? GARRISON, Box 335, FOREST GROVE, OREGON Rooms for All During Fair. No matter how many thousands of visitors are in Portland during thu Lewis and Clark World's Fair, every one will get tho best of hotel accom modations and none will be left uncared for. This is the declaration of. Exposi tion ofllcials, who are already wrestling with the serious problem of hotel fa cilities, says the Oregouiau. In order that this may be accom plished, a canvass of the city will be made at once to determine how many available rooms there are in private residence. On au estimate it is said that au increaso of half the city's pop ulation could be comfortably cared tor by the rooms that resideuts would be willing to rent under such conditions as will prevail during the Fair, every one having an interest aud pride in Portland's reputation for hospitality. "When we get a complete list of all availahle rooms," said Secretary Reed, of the Exposition Corporation, "we will issue h booklet containing their loca tions and the rates charged. These pamphlets will be distributed at the depots and on the traius aud will en able each aud every visitor to know ex actly what accommodations can be had and the cost of them. It will be im possible for tho hotels to care for all the visitors, and it will be necessary to resort to this method. It was in this manner that Buffalo cared for the throngs at the Pan-American Exposi tion, and it was found quite effective an! satisfactory on that occasion." iipiiirr una ii 10 GRAND MOST DELIGHTFUL WAY TO CROSS THE CONTINENT A Day in the City of the Saints A Mountain-Walled Track Through Colo rado and the Grandest Scenery on the American Continent Dining Cars on All Trains Service a la Carte Popular Personally Conducted Tourist Excursions to Alt Eastern Points OEonOE HALL M.
