The high water in the Bin Elk and the drift wood broke through the trap at toe fish hatchery and let the Im prisoned salmon loose. This ia un fortunate, as the chioook run is about over. Chap. Ewing shipped a car load of cattle from this place last week. They went to Portland and the freight was $50. Stock raisers will have to resort to the old way and drive their cattle to market. VaoDueen, the game and fish warden, is out inspecting the hatchery. He thinks the hatchery will not be a suc cess unless the law ia enforced forbid ding the putting of drift wood in the river. A. Huyck and family have moved down to the Toner dairy ranch. Thete are a good many desireable lots of apples and potatoes waiting for a market. The ranchers are of the opln ion that they will have to wait and raise another orob before shipping, as one crop will not bring enough in. the market to pay the freight Mr. Will iams shipped some apples to Portland and did not get enough for them to pay for freight and boxes. The old timer who was tellinir on the streots during our brief spell of pleas ant weather that he has known such weather to last all winter has left town. Troy Mays and Frank Whestler were in town Tuesday night. They re port a successful fishing season.
