Considerable discussion is going on
relative to the quality of the Salem
water. Some contend that it is per
fectly pure, while others assert that it
is full of wingless microbes and other
dangerous animals. There are certain
ritixeiiH in every nnmmnnitv who are'
hIwhvs ready to slander the water.
Jow the water of Toledo, for instance,
is good enough for anyhody, yet we re
cently heard au old-time-citizen de
clare that it is bad very bad. He said
he knew what he was talking
about, for he tasttd it onre sev
eral years ago. We remember, also)
that while we were in Salem last winter
State Printer Joe Whitney warned us
to beware of the water, informing us on
the quiet that he never drank it.
While we thus briefly touch upon the
important subject, we do not wish to
