The Des Chutes Echo of last week lias considerable to say of the Des Chutes timber claims, held largely by Albany people. Dr. N. E. Winnard, who has been instrumental in formiug the pool, comes in for some uncalled lor caustic comment. Dr. Winnard in hu iuterview with a Herald representa tive outlines the position of tho claim holders. This organization is a friendly itiforuinl one. It object is to discourage the Kile of claims at under value. All of the Albany people have made final proof and paid for their land, according to law. It means much to tbe iudivid- uals and to tbe community whether this timber land, if sold, brings fair value uu what timber buyers choose to pay. So far as the Herald sees, the claimants have a good, and tbeir lands are worth more than $1000 per quarter section. Albany Herald. . The directors of the Chicago Golf Club have notified the women golfers that they must not appear on the links in French heel shoes. Which proves that tho Windy City is not as bud as painted. Why some wotnen desire to wear shoes which make them walk like frozen-toed hens is one of the myster ies which no man can probe. ... The Weather. Station: Toledo; Mouth : Sept. 1903.
