the Corvallis Times breaks open as
follows;
Four years ago, when Tongue over
threw Herman, there was drive and
thrift at Yuipiina. Steamers were run
ning regularly and loaded railroad trains
ran to and from the valley. Now, after
four years of Tongue, all is stagnation
and paralysis. There are no loaded
trains, no steamers, and wharves are
ratting where they stand,

has been remarked several times,

result of opposition and obstacles
which could not be overcome. They
know that during his brief congres
sional career he has attained posi
tions on committees reached by no
other representative of the stale in
a similar period of service. The
opposition may continue to make
the charge of dishonesty and set
up the chestnutty cry of "Traitor!"
but they can furnish no proof. It
is simply the old partisan wail,
echoed by a few republicans with
imaginary grievances. But many
members of the opposition parties
will stand by Mr. Tongue in the
coming election, for they know that
no new member of congress; es
pecially a member of the minority! Dealers
party, can have sufficient influence !
to make his services worth his:

salary. Mr. Tongue has won his
way to influential positions, and the
people of this district are willing to
trust their interests with him for
another term.
