MM mm A newspaper whose columns over flow with advertisements of business men has more influence In attracting attention to building up a town than any other agency that can be employed. People go wheie there is business. Capi tal and labor go where there Is an en terprising community. No power on earth is so strong to build up a town as a newspaper well patronized, and its power should be appreciated. T. De Witt Talmage. It Is very easy to plan one's advertis ing for the whole season at the begin ning, and It removes all the worry and uncertainty from the advertiser after ward. When an advertiser has his ad vertisements all prepared and arranged In' advance it does not necessarily fol low that he cannot make changes that business conditions make necessary, any more than it follows that an archi tect cannot make changes in a building lie has designed as the building pro gresses; but the advertiser who has ar ranged his plans thoroughly at the be- queutly with a clear Idea of the effect upon his entire plan, and his changes will usually be in the direction of lm provement rather than a helter-skelter rush to keep the work going. Adver tising Experience. If you toot your little tooter aud then lay aside your horn, . There's not a soul iu ten days will know that you were born. The man who gathers pumpkins is the man who plows all day, And the man who keeps a humping is the j man who makes it pay. The man who advertises with a short and suddeu jerk, Is the man who blames the printer be- 1 cause it didn't work. I The gent who keeps the business has a long und steady pull, I And keeps the local paper for years and I years quite full. I lie plans his advertisements in a thought ful, honest way, And keeps forever at it until he makes it pay.' I lie has full faith in all the future and can A withstand a sudden shock, ' And like the man of Scripture has his business ou a rock. i Boulder, Colo., News. At a recent meeting of the Anthropol ogical Society In Washington Dr. Mat thews described the snake worship of the Navajos. A Navajo, he said, nevei kills a snake. If he finds one colled In bis path he gently lifts It with a stick and tosses It aside. The Navajos think snakes are very wise and understand the language of men. At the same time they believe snakes are evil and will employ the information they get by listening to men . for their disad vantage. Accordingly the Navajos hold their most sacred rites and recite theli myths only In winter, when the snakes are hibernating and cannot overheat them. What a British Army Corps la.
