Following are the proceedings: In the matter ot the petition of L J Diffenbacher for the support of Priei!!a D:5cr.hacliei ; dismissed. In the matter of the collection of taxes for the years 1896, 1897 and 1898; ordered that the sheriff be and is hereby ordered to return the delinquent rolls by September 1, 1899. In the matter of janitor hire; or dered that the services of janitor be discontinued. In the matter of the repairing of the bridge, across Depoe slough at Dundon's; ordered that the county judge be authorized to contract to repair the bridge. In the matter of the repairs on Dunn bridge; ordered that super visor repair said bridge. Report of Geo. Bethers, . school superintendent, received and placed on file. Resignation of E II Baldwin, justice of the peace of precinct No. 13, accepted. In the matter of appointing Frank Carson special deputy sheriff; ap pointment approved. An interesting character has been in town for a dav or two. He is Louis S. South worth, a gentle man of color, who resides on Alsea toy and who was for many years an esteemed citizen of Benton county. He is a man of splendid physique, and carries a head as well proportioned as his body. He first came to Benton from Missouri in 1851, and most of the interim to the present has been spent in in dustrial pursuits in this section. He is a violinist of some repute, and for seven years traveled the coast from Arizona to Idaho in company with John Kelly, the noted fiddler. He bears the distinction of having been born on the Fourth of July, and he passed his seventieth mile stone last month. He is of a most amiable disposition as well as keen intellect, and his company is prized by those who take pleasure in studying original character. He has served at various times in Cor vallis shops as a blacksmith. Cor vallis Times. Troublesome to the Army.
