August Fischer, representing the Corvallis Flouring Mills, was doing business in Toledo last Wednesday. Mr. Fischer is a wide awake young man and looks closely after the in terests of his firm. Marshal Allphin has scrubbed up and cleaned out the city jail, and has it in spick and span shape for the occupancy of the county pris oners McMurray and Carlson. Sheriff Landis will not bring the county prisoners confined in the Benton county jail over to Toledo till Monday, of next week. The jail facilities here are such that a guard will be necessary in the jail with the prisoners day and night. The sheriff intends to take no chan ces with either prisoner. McMurray has already made one jail escape, and the sheriff does not propose to have a second if vigilance and care can prevent it. The Klondyke fever has appeared in a malignant form in our locality and the prospects, or talk, at least seems fair that a nnmber ot our peo dle will succumb to the disease and make a journey to the frozen north in the spring. Among those that have the fever in the worst form are Rite Dedrick and Henry Burns. 'Both of these gentlemen express an earnest and avowed intention of go ing to some point in Alaska at an early date. The matter was brought before the grand jury at the last session and three indicments were returned by that body, one chareiner Addie Pike with bigamy, another charg- j ing Pete Collins with adultery and the third charging Louie Fuller with perjury. Strictly speaking, we suppose that these parties are all guilty but they can never be made to believe it.
