H&nisonjr, ofWaldport was in Toledo , esterday. Mr. Har rison went from here to Portland today, and expects to go from that city to San Francisco, where he will stop for some time. Wesley Davis has been up from Newport several days this week. There is a rumor to the effect that Wesley would not object to the re publican nomination for county clerk at the coming county conven tion. That part of Ross precinct lying between Otter Rock and the north line ol Newport precinct has been cut off of Ross precinct and added to Newport precinct. This will make it much more convenient for the settlers living in that section to vote next election. The installation of the officers for ensuing terms for the various fra ternal societies of this place have mostly all been installed. Last Sat urday evening Toledo Lodge No. 108, I. O. O. The route from Toledo to Silelz, which calls for six round trips per week, brings only $308 to the contractor. The old contract was $496, those fami liar with this route say that it can not be carried (or that money. If our home people will stand to gether and not bid for staivation wages this contractor will not be able to sublet his routes without a loss on each one. The progressive ladies of West- field, Ind., issued a "Womans Edi tion" of the Westfield NTe ing date of Apiil 3, 1806. Richley, a rock inspector from Portland was in town a day or two last week. He calls the rock in this vicinity and at Pioneer of good quality. Col. F. J. Parker was with us Ltal week attending to his ranch. Clyde VanOrden started for Ta- coma last week. He will work with Powers and Dixon who left here some time ago. The bid ders here seam to think it will be difficult to find men to take the route at the prices bid. Elk City to Glen went for $293. E. N. Casteel will accompany I.. W.
