Steamboat inspectors Edwards and McDermott of Portland, came over to the Bay yesterday evening on tbeir atjnual inspection of steam vessels in jJbese waters. They in spected the tugs Resolute and Ro barts, the steamer Richardson, the launch Mascotte and the ferry boat Rebecca C. All of thesa vessels passed a satisfactory inspection and had their licenses renewed for another year. Mrs. N. P. Stevens is lying very low at the home of Mr. G. C Stake ly in this place. It will be remem bered that Mrs. Stevens suffered a fracture of one of her legs last win ter, aud also underwent a severe surgical operation for relief from a cancer. It was thought at the time that she would recover from both, but her old age made her too weak and she has been gradually sinking for some time. Her death has been expected at any time during the past week. A warrant was sworn out in 'Squire Henderson's court at Little Elk, the first of the week by Wm. Sportsman, charging one Ralph Daniels with setting fire to Sports man's house some time ago. Dan iels was arrested at Newport and put in jail there over night. Chas. Lutjens, Charley Winant, Crosby Matthews and Ed. Abbey. The picnic in Krogstad's gro-e last Saturday was not very largely attended owing to the threatening weather of the forenoon. Quite an enjoyable time was had by all present, however. Attorney Harry Denlinger made an impromptu ad dress that was very good, and was fully appieciated. It is intended to hold another picnic at the same place at some future time when good weather can be assured. We sincerely hope that the of ficials will be able to trace down and capture the party that commit ted the robbery in Toledo last Mon day morning. It seems to be the universal opinion that this robbery was committed by some person ac quainted with Mr. Johnson and his business. If such be the case we hope that the officers will use more diligence to capture the guilty par ties. With such persons at large in a community no one is safe. The robber that would set upon an old man like Johnson for the small sum of $20 would, in all probability kill a man for a larger sum. Until this person or persons are punished the town rests under a constant menace. Jury List for July Term. After the speaking the train will return to Albany in time to catch the regular O. C. & E. train to the Bay. The fare from all stations in this county to Albany and return will be $1.50, and the fate for round trip from Albany to Lebanon will be 50 cents, making the total cost $2.00 for round trip to Lebanon. Bed, breakfast and dinner can be obtained in Albany for 25 cents each. A good many people have signified their intention of going on this excursion as it is the first one from the Bay to the Valley that ha ever been given. Arrangements will be made for ample accommo dations in railroad coaches and at the hotels, so that the excursion ists will have an enjoyable time. Parties having business outside can get their tickets extended by pay ing fifty cents per day additional. R. A. Bensell was up from New port yesterday. T. W. B. Smith, of Benton county, was in Toledo Tuesday night, and went to the Siletz yes terday. Mr. Smith is well known to all of the old settlers of this county, having been at one time assessor of Benton county before the division. His numerous friends here gave him a hearty greeting. The weather has become settled, and the farmers and ranchers of Lincoln county will be extremely busy for the next few weeks getting in their hay crop. This crop will be much better than was expected aiong about the first of June.
