Looking to Oregon for Relief. The number of letters of inquiry received daily by the immigration board from parties at the East, who are contemplating coming to Ore gon, is very large. Following is a copy of a letter from a resident of Iowa, which is a fair sample of many others received: "We are organizing a party to come to Oregon in April, and from present indications I think it will number 40 to 50 persons, compris ing some of our best farmers and business men. Some time ago I sent the names of a number of persons who wanted reading matter, which was duly received, and is of such high character that Mr. Wil son who is helping me to get up In charging the grand jury last Monday Judge Fullerton called their attention to the state law for bidding the sale of intoxicating liquors to Indians, and charged the jury that they might consider this section of the statute under the advice of the d istrict attorney. He, in substance, told the jury that if they found that this statute still applied that, while it might not be advisable to return indictments for offenses that have already been committed, they might give due notice to the liquor dealers that future violations would be prose cuted. "The law of 1796," he says, "provides that the legislature; chosen next before the expiration of the terra of a sena tor shall choose i his successor, and that it shall proceed to do so on the second Tuesday after it assembles.
