- tl THE COOS BAY TIMES, MARSHFIELD, OREGON, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 1911 EVENING EDITION. FREE-FOR-ALL cur caucus BOYS' SUITS ONE-HALF PRICE I 1ST T h it r Marshfielcl and North Bend Football Contest Savored of Riot Marshfielcl Won. (Continued from pago 1.) In tho most exciting gnmo of the Benson, Mnrshfleld High school de feated North Bend Snturdny by tho Bcoro of live to none and thereby won the Coob county championship for 1911. Tho giuuo from start to fin ish wns 11 mlxturo of long brilliant runs, fumbles, Unites, nnd slugging, with nn occasional freo for nil light nmong tho spectators or players. Time nnd again Marshlleld worked tho ball down to North 13 end live nnd ten ynrds lines only to lose It on fumbles, or by falling to make yard age, while the North Bend boys elec trified tho crowd by getting nwny with sovoral forward passes for big gains. Tho Marshlleld boys seemed tired and over-trained, and after tho llrst quarter wero unable to get any llfo Into their plnys. The North Bond players showed a great lnck of praotico and mado several bad break fumbles. Marshlleld mndo tho only touch down of tho gamo In tho llrst fov minutes of play. North Bend kicked off, Stutsman getting tho ball and running It back ten or fifteen ynrds before ho was downed. Marshlleld then started off with a rush, and by a rapid series of plays ran tho ball down tho field nnd over tho goal, Stutsman making tho touchdown. No goal was kicked nftcr this, tho teams seemed evenly matched nnd for tho rest of tho quarter tho ball sec-sawed back nnd forth, now In Marshlleld territory nnd now In her opponents. Tho ball wns put In play on North Bend's thlrty-ynrd lino. Mnrshflold worked tho ball down to within strik ing distance of North Bend's goal, but lost It on n fumble. North Bond then started In oh line bucking tac tics nnd for a time mndo good gains, but Marshlleld finally solved their formation nnd held tnem (or downs. The rest of tho qtinrtor tho ball wnJ switched back and for'h between tho two teams, neither s'd: waning to bo able to gain much of nn advan tage. In fho second half Mnrshflcld kicked off to North Bond. After n fow minutes of play, n couple of Mnrshflold players became enraged at North Bend slugging tactics and started In to "clean up" nn equal number of their opponents. A gen eral mlxup followed and for n time it looked nB though n riot would re sult. However, tho teams wore fln nlly soparatod nnd play was resum ed. Later, n couple of lights started nmong tho spectators nnd tho gamo had to bo Mopped until tho crowd wns qulotod. Aftor this, tho boys settled down nnd played better ball than at any time during tho game. Tho last quarter was n repetition of tho former two, nolthcr sldo be ing nblo to solvo their opponent's de fense nnd score. This wns tho best gnmo of tho season and gives Marshlleld tho Coos cumiij ciiiiiiiiiiuiiHiiip lor mil. ( Tho Mnrshflold tonm deserves a' Tho Rodondo grent deal of credit for tho cxcollcnt I morning for Snn Win. Grimes, Dr. Mlngiu nnd others.
