VJ. THE COOS BAY TIMES, MARSHFIELD, OREGON, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14,1911 EVENING EDITION. 1 11 X.. Ri i use Bsnu. on Trial May Not Be Concluded Today Several Receive Sentences For Crimes. (Special to Tho Times.) COQUILLK. Ore. Sept. 1 1. Tho case of tho State of Oregon vs. Jack Mnrsdon, who was Indicted on tho charge1 of assaulting J. W. Bennett in Mnrshllcld with intent to kill, Is still on and it is doubtful if it will bo completed today. Tho evldonco npaliiBt Mnrsdon is considered strong. One thing that the defense has been trying particularly to offset Is tho contention of tho prosecution that tho attack was premeditated. One wit ness by whom the state intended to prove that Mnrsdon had mndo threats agnlnst J. W. Bennett provlous to the nssnult denied It on the stnud. Justice Ilolden of Coqulllo was call ed and proved by his records that this witness at tho preliminary hear ing did testify thnt he heard Mn ra don mako threats against Mr. Hon nett. Three Are PuuMictl. Andrew Olson of Lakeside plead ed guilty to n chnrgo of violating tho liquor inw. He was fined $200 by Judge Coko and Clins. Thorn paid tho line. Olson claimed that ho was unnwaro of tho chango In tho liquor law. Ho Is now applying for a li cense to sell liquor at Ten Mile. Pasco, an Italian who has been In tho county Jail three or four months on the chnrgo of Illegally soiling li quor nt Conlodo, was convicted. Judge Coko Imposed a lino of $200 nnd then suspended tho sentenco during good behavior. Pasco would probably havo to servo It out In tho county Jail and ns this was his llrst offonso and In view of the fact that ho had already served a stiff torm, Judgo Coko decided clemency should bo shown him. Alvin Pierce, who wns convicted of shoplifting In Coqulllo, wns given an Indeterminate sentenco of one to seven years. Thero nro several other criminal rases to come up aside from others that mny result from tho grand Jury Investigations now In progress. jJySj; JB 2v hLv Una' and will go from thero to Ger many to spend tho winter, studying rcfotertrntiou In tho famous Mack forest ..
