ELLIOTT, an advertising I specialist recently delivered an address oh advertising from the retailer's standpoint In which he said: "Every act that a business man docs advertises him and his business - because a man cannot separate himself from his business in the pub lic mind -either favorably or unfa vorably. Whether he will or not. he must and does advertise In that way Whoiv to Advert lo. "When you advertise you want to reach the people, all the people, the nldrt Inhabitant, the man who mov ed to town yesterday, the young couple Just married, the young man or womau who has Just earned the first dollar and Is itching to s'tend It. You want them all. the rich, the door, from the cradle to the grave, and the only advertising medium that Teachos them all the time I the newsnaper. "The uewsnaner has come to be a part of tho life of the iteopl. Bverv one of vou wants to know what has noon happening In your home town todnv. what has been haononlntr in America. In Eurono. In Asia. Nowe papers cost bo little nnd contain so much that ovorv uorson who Is allv and has a purchasing power worth considering roads tho newspaper to get the news and to learn what to Imv nnrl whflrn to bUV It. "Advertising has becomo so much a part of dally paper that the public has come to accept It as a source of valuable information' In other words, to consult the advertisements for information about buying. For these reasons the dally newspaper Is the one place to advertise at a profit. "A newspaper advertisement has Just two uses for the retail merchant It Is a source of Information to the buying public, nnd it is a reminder. "These are the only things you need ever think of when preparing retail advertising for your newspaper space. "if you can make your advertise ment a real and interesting source of Information the public will read and then will come and buy. "Xever advertise 'Just to fill my space.' See that you offer goods that are seasonable and reasonable." OXE SENATOR KLKCTEI). Wot Virginia I'lioooe W. E. Chilton. (By Associated Press to Coos Day Times.) CHARLESTON W. Va., Jan. 25.
