That saying a man Is "capablo of anything" Is a very different thing change the liot-xes so that one will , not be compelled to be In the middle , for more than half a day at a time. I The pernicious pestering of tiles is another matter that cannot bo over looked. The dairy cows and calves, as well ns the horses, can be well pro-tet-ted from tiles by such preparations as are for sale at almost all drug stores or nre iidenlsed In tho farm papers. These preparations aro not expensive ! nud uro best applied with n sprayer, although a brush or rag will do If u sprayer Is not available. For the work horse a light treatment every morning will afford better protection from tiles than n net or blanket and Is much cooler. According to another writer. It is al lowable when n horse Is hot to let him hnve three or four swallows of cool water, but no more. The few swallows will help cool him, and another limited drink may be given every few minutes for four or live times, after which ho ' muy drink his fill without danger. In careless or Inexperienced hands,' how ever, the only safo way Is to let the , horse stand for half an hour or more i with no water until bo Is fairly cooled off. Salt Is necessary to horses, but It should not be given to them In largo quantities nnd irregularly. An excess of salt at ono time produces conges tion of tho stomach and Induces ex cesslve thirst, The best plan is to keep rock salt In reach of the hprses at all times, so that they can satisfy their 'nppotlto by an 'occasional lick. If you bare not followed this practice. Introduce It gradually by giving the' animal a little salt with his regular ration for a week.
