In consequence, he was or dered committed to the county jail and Deputy Sheriff Gage got him but then he entered habeas corpus pro ceedings, securing his release until Saturday afternoon when Judge Coke will hear the case. Discuss Basketball. E. M. Ash com and other former basketball stars here are planning to organize a couple of basketball teams here for the winter. Clinininndo Club Meets. The Chaminade Club held its regular weekly meeting last evening. It has been decided to meet at the homes of the members for a part of the season at least owing to the difficulty In securing a hall. Geese Flying. Last night, large numbers of geese were flying south ward over the city, Indicating that summer weather is no more'. They were flying high. A large number went out this morning in hopes of getting some of the ducks driven in ,by the storm. Starts New Business. George Thomason, who recently disposed of his business in South Marshfleld, Is figuring on leasing part of the new warehouse erected by the Alliance on the waterfront north of Central avenue and engaging In the hay and feed business there. Initiate Three. Marshfleld Lodge of Elks last evening Initiated three new members, H. J. McDlrmld of Myrtle Point, and A. E. Neff and H. A. Wells of Marshfleld. There was a fair attendance. Jack Flana gan, Vlnco Pratt, W. E. Dungan and Billy Smith, the old time home tal ent minstrels of Coos Bay, are re hearsing for another appearance here which will be soon after the reopening of the new Dime theatre. They are planning for a three nights exhibition, two performances each evening. That It will be good goes without saying. Dr. Straw Out. Dr. E. E. Straw who has been confined to his home for a week or ten days as a result of his auto nccldent, is able to be up and nround. He will have to keep his right arm In a sling for sometime but is nble to use his left hand some. Mrs. Straw Is nlso able to be up and nround tho house, a fact that will bo pleasing news to their many friends. Mrs. Hume Coming. Mrs. R. D. Hume Is expected here tonight or to morrow en route to Portland where she goes to confer with parties who are negotiating for the purchases of the R. D. Hume estate on Rogue river. She has been empowered to dispose of the property at private sale and will probably do so within a short time. Several parties or companies tie negotiating for it. Eastern Shipment Arrives. Of this number 2,7GC,C83 were paid admissions and 974,808 were free. It is estlmatod that tho fair earn ed a profit of $200,000. Tho surplus will be drawn upon to clear tho grounds. If any remains after this Is accomplished, It will bo little.
