BANE of Flagstaff, was a Marshfleld shopper today. "MURPHY" CARLSON of Ten Mile, was a Marshfleld visitor today. ORVILLE WILSON of Sumner, was a Marshfleld business visitor to day. RALPH JACKSON of Coos Bay, is now chief clerk In W. F. Rau's hotel at Medford. W. H. WATSON has moved into the F. Ai Haines cottage on Fifth street in South Marshfleld. A. JACOBSON and S. W. Van Zile of North Bend, were Marsh fleld business visitors today. MISS ISIS MARSH has returned from a few days visit with Mrs. Claude Stutsman at Coqullle. H. W. PAINTER will return tonight or tomorrow from a trip to Port Orford and intervening points. W. S. CHANDLER Jr., has returned from Portland where he was ar ranging for material for their new building. . MRS. J. T. HARRIGAN has returned from an extended northern trip, including a visit at the Seattle ex position. II. E. SHINE, manager of the South ern Oregon Company, returned last evening from a business trip to Portland. MRS. P. L. PHELAN and son, Pres ton have returned to Myrtle Point after a short visit with friends here. ERIC BOLT; who has been taking in the Seattle Fair, has gone to Gold Hill where he will visit his grand parents for a week or so. HARRY G. BUTLER expects to leave on the next Plant for San Francisco where he expects to re main until next spring at least. MRS. SAUNDERS, formerly Miss Teresa Knowles, arrived on the Breakwater for a visit at the home of her sister, Mrs. R. E. Shine of Empire. W. S. CHANDLER and Irving Chan dler are down from their South Coos River summer home. Irving made the trip down last evening In his new launch, the Bertha A, In an hour and thlrty-flvo minutes. GEORGE BAIL of Hot Springs, S. D., who hns been Investigating this section for a couple of weeks, will return with his family just as quickly as he can shape up his business affairs tlfere. MRS. C. A. SEHLBREDE will reach homo this evening via the Rose-burg-Myrtle Point auto route. Sho has been away three months visit ing in Portland, Seattle, Salem, Roseburg and other points. DR. G. W. LESLIE returned last evening from n short outing nt Florence and other points on tho Sitislaw. Ho says that quite a boom hns been started thero by tho various projects for develop ing that section. MRS. A. STILES, Worthy Grand Matron of the Oregon Eastern Star who has been visiting Doric Chapter for a few days, will leave today for the Coqullle Valley whero she will visit tho chanters thero after which will proceed to Roseburg. . II. WALTER returned last evening f-n a trip to tho Seattle Expo s'tlon. Ho says tho lair is much better than ho expf-e'ed to seo and he declares that the attendance is surpassing all expectations. COK3 and family left today for A.lcgany where they will enjoy a short outing. "GRANDMA" LOCKHART Is re ported quite 111, suffering from a complication of Ills. JAMES WATSON, county clerk, came over from Coqullle today. He and his two sisters will leave on the Breakwater tomorrow to take in the Seattle Exposition. B. F. LAWRENCE, managing editor of the Indianapolis Star, and wife arrived here on the Breakwater to visit Mr. Lawrence's parents, De puty Assessor, and Mrs. J. S. Law rance at Coqullle and other rela tives in this section. L. A. LILJEQVIST and Dr. Leslie returned last evening from Flor ence. L. A. says he found the Doctor chasing deer both wild and tame and the Doctor Intimates that the assistant prosecuting at torney did not devote all his time to professional business while there. MRS. A. M. CRAWFORD, wife of Attorney General Crawford, arriv ed here this week from Salem to visit at the home of her uncle, Judge Watson of Coos City. Craw ford will come down next week to attend the Oregon-Idaho Develop ment Congress and to visit friends. He formerly practised law here. J. E. LYONS, who has been spend ing a few days on the Bay looking after business interests and visit ing friends, will leave tomorrow for his home in Portland. Jim says that Coos Bay never looked better to him and his many friends here are hoping that It made such an Impression on him that he and Mrs. Lyons will return and help boost It along. Remove Quarantine. The small pox quarantine has been removed from the I Miller boarding house on South Broadway, all of the patients having fuIiy recovered from the dis ease. FRIDAY AND THE 1STII. Combination of Unlucky Omens Today But Nothing Happens. Today rhou'd have been an un lucky one if half the things attribut ed to "Friday" and hoodoo 13 have any weight because it is Friday and the thirteenth day of August. There we,-e no accidents or other evil doing-? around town so that be lievers in omens were given a severe shock. One accident was reported at the Smith-Powers Logging camp on North Coo3 River. Notice is hereby given, by order of the Common Council of the City of Marshfleld, Coos County, Oregon, dated the 24th day of June, 1909, that a special election will be held at the City Hall in the City of Marsh fleld, Coos County, Oregon, between the hours of 9 o'clock a. in., and C o'clock p. m., on TUESDAY the 24th, day of A.igust, 1909, for the pur pose of submitting to the legal voters of said City for their approval or rejection, an .amendment to Section 110 of the city Charter of said City of Marshfleld, to increase the limit of Indebtedness to five per cent of the assessed valuation of the property within the corporate limits of the said city, and also an amendment to sub-division 34 of Section 2S of the Charter of the said City of Marshfleld, authorizing and empowering the Common Coun cil of the City of Marshfleld, to Issue and dispose of bonds of said city, not exceeding five per cent of the as sessed valuation of the property within the corporate limits of said City of Marshfleld, said bonds to be payable in not less than ten nor more than tw-enty years, the same to beat Interest not exceeding six per cent, for the purpose of redeeming and paying off the warrant indebtedness of the said City of Marshfleld, Coos County, Oregon.
