City Council Tonight. The Marsh field city council will meet this even ing at 7:30 o'c ock. Regular busi ness is to come up. . Hutch Jinny Fish. Supt. Smith of the Coos River fish hatchery, has taken up his racks after securing about 4,000,000 salmon eggs. The low water interfered with the fish egg supply. Undergoes Operation. Thomas Rooke who has charge of the fire en gine and who was operated ona few days ago by Dr. Hrosfall, is getting along nicely. Rl. C. Cordes Is attend ing to Mr. Rooke's duties while the latter is laid up. Mother Denci. Mrs. Clara Lenet of Centerville, has been notified of the death of her mother, Mrs. E. G. Baker, at Irving, Ore. Mrs. Baker was a pioneer resident vof Coos Bay but moved with her husband to the Willamette Valley several years ago. Work On Ferry Slip. Work will soon begin on repairing the Marsh flel'd ferry slip so that the ferry can run into Its regular place at 'W' street instead of up to the wharf back of the city hall. The work will be rushed and It Is hoped to have it completed within a week or ten days. Eighty-Nine. C. S. Hilborn of Millicoma, one of the oldest and best known pioneers of Coos and Curry counties, will celebrate his eighty ninth birthday, January 1C. Ho Is still hale and hearty. He settled at Port Orford in 185G but moved to Coos Bay In 186G and has resided In this section continuously since then. Stop Boat Service. It Is announc ed that the Hume estate will discon tinue the boat service between Port Orford and Coos Bay at least tem porarily. The company will appear in North Bend Friday night. A more extended notice of the company will appear in tomor row's paper. Enstsido Council Meets. The Eastslde city council met last evening and organized for the coming year, Messrs. Stonecypher, Ackles and Humbert being the now members. The new charter becomes effective now and the municipality will havo its own laws Instead of being merely governed by the Oregon statutes. "Will Ask Franchise. A represen tative of the Coos Bay Gas and Elec tric Company have asked the East side council and officials to take un der consideration the advisability of granting franchises to the Coos Bay Gas and Electric Company for gas and electricity. It Is stated by offi cials there that no franchises will bo granted for sometime to come. E. N. Hurry Here. E. N. Harry, postmaster and road super visor at Sitkum, is spending a few days In Marshfleld on business and pleasure. Sitkum Is just thirty-four miles east of Marshfleld, half way be tween Coos Bay and Rosoburg. Mr. Harry says that1 the roads are pretty bad, but not so bad as In pre vious years, the improvement each year being of marked effect. Ho says that mall carriers could make better time If pack horses were used. The canyon is the danger spot now, but two men have been stationed there to keep it clear. Mr. Harry has been road supervisor there for about six teen years, and It is likely that he will be reappointed and given moro funds with which to improve the roads. SEVERAL DIVORCES GRANTED.
