Peculiar Accident Affects Tele
phone Lines to Coos River
and Eastside.
Telephone lines to Coos River,
Eastside, Bay City and Sumner aro
out of order on account of a most
unusual accident. The cable crossing
tho bay was broken by tho anchor
of the Grace Dollar, a steam schoon
er a few days ago. Tho steamer
stopped In the bay to turn around
and dropped her anchor. It happen
ed that the anchor fell exactly where
the cable lay and In pulling up tho
anchor the cable was snapped in two.
If an effort wns made to doithat very
thing It would be next tq Impossible
and the nccident Is one which would
not likely happen once in a hundred
years as tho steamers seldom ever
drop anchor at that part of the bay.
The accident however s trouble
some for the telephone . company.
The wlro chief says that It will bo
necessary to take the cable up
entirely and repair it and put it down
agalm The lines affected will prob
ably be In operation again by Tues
day or Wednesday.
