O come, let every heart prepare A thankful song of praise To Him who leads us by His hand And governs all our ways; He bids tho sun majestic rise; Ho brings the show'rs that fall; He makes the earth to bud and bloom And yield her fruit for all, The summer grain Is gathered In, Its harvest time Is o'er, And golden autumn spreads again A full and plenteous store; The hours of long and patient toll Receive a bright reward, And they who sowed, with those who reap, Together bless the Lord, O day, our veteran sires revered And gladly set a day apart, To thank the Lord for mercies past, So dear to every heart; O day, when social ties renewed, Proclaim to all His love, The songs that with Thy light ascend Shall fill the courts above. Selected. THANKSGIVING. Marshflold and Coos Bay and Coos county generally have every reason for a grateful and heartfelt ThanH glving this year. Marshfleld has been unusually and particularly blessed and favored, the city Is growing maguillcently; business along all lines Is good; everything points to continued prosperity, there Is no reason why the people of Coos Hay should not be grateful for bless ings received for the well-founded hope of more blessings In the future. Every man who can should eat his own turkey Thursday; every man who is able to buy two turkeys should see that his less fortunate neighbor does not miss his turkey. Thanks giving Day Is hallowed; it should be rightly appreciated and observed. OUR COUNTY'S TWO HARBORS. The enterprising business men of Coos Bay are wide awake, and there Is a good attendance at their com mercial meetings, at which places they show a disposition to appre ciate tho advantages they enjoy, and they aro farslghted enough -to see that tho "powers that be" will help those who help themselves, and the Sentinel takes the liberty to predict that those people will succeed In gottlng nn appropriation from con gross this winter that will bo ade quate to make a good beginning on tho now pioject to deepen their har bor so that oven war essels can cross tho Coos Hay bar. Such an improvement would please ovary fair-minded person In Coos county, and If It Is possible for tho proprietor of this paper to aid in bringing about such a condition ho will bo pleased to assist In that grand work. First, because It will bo a great benoflt to every resident of tho county; and, Bocond, becauso tho people living about tho bay nio entitled to a har bor second to none south of Pugot Sound, becauso they have gono Into their pockets and hno willingly borno tho expenso needed to accom plish such results. They nro well awaro that as thoir commercial faci lities increase, thoir real estate will advanco in value, and their cities will build up. Coos county Is fortu nate In tho fact that naturo has pro vided two harbors, each belug esson tlal to tho prosperity of tho wholo country; but outside of Bandon tho prosperous farmors of this favored valley. ""'1 many business men of tho Coqulllo, do not roallzo that to suc ceed In this Hfo (hoy must bo wldo nwako ond watch every opportunity to bettor conditions, evon If It Is ne cessary (o put up a little monoy to promote thoir own lnterosts, ns woll as thoso of tho community. The en terprising pooplo of Bandon lmvo started a piling Jetty that has al ready improved tho harbor, nnd for that reason It Is being arranged to I WIIH THE J 5 TOAST AND TEA ? ti GOOD EVENING. tt ' It is a greater compliment to ' be trusted, than to be lavtd. , MACDONALD i Dear, though you wander over peace and passion, Searching the days to prove your self untrue, You can not hide me. Still, In my own fashion, I shall come back to you. In other eyes, on lips that bid you doubt me, In music, In the little things we knew, In your blind prayers for happiness without me I shall come back to you. God keep you safe through all the ache of learning, Through all the wrong you need to be and do, Till In the wise joy of unfearful yearning I shall come back I shall come back to you! Selected. O MY GRAFTONY. To live content with a'l means; to seek affluence rather than poverty and deslgnment rather than labor; to be wealthy not respectable seem " wealthy not rich, to scheme O hard, think quietly, talk gently act greasily this Is to be my graftony. THE GRAFTER. The chauffeur doesn't always know what he is driving at. A man naturally rises in his own estimation when he settles down. A fellow feels that he doesn't cut much ice when a girl treats him coldly. It seems much easier to go from bad to worse than from good to bet ter. It's all well enough to take the bull by the hornB If the bull will stand for It. Life: "Everything comes to him who waits," mused the man in a restaurant; "but it comes cold." When it comes to orthography, the only way to please everybody is to let people spell to suit themselves. Children come Into the world heavily handicapped because they are not permitted to select their own parents. Tommy "Pop, what Is a cri minal?" Tommy's Pop "A cri minal, my son, Is a person who Is found out." After a man has 'moved heaven and earth to acquire a certain thing ho Is surprised to discover how little he cares for it. Now that olectlon Is over It Is per tinent to remind tho young ladles that less than two months of leap year remains. A mathematician announces that tho apple crop will make GOO, 000, 000 pies. But only a small percentage of them will bo edible. We don't cnio so much for an au tomobile, but wo would like to have tho recipo of tho man who got Into an Arkansas City bank for $80,000. A dairyman's daughter In Illinois wns drowned in a tank of milk In tondod for tho market. Did the local papers say she "found a watery gravo?" put on vessels largo enough to carry coal, and tho coal mines aro making extra efforts to develop their hold ings. Now thoso enterprising peo plo at Bandon having taxed them selves highly to accomplish what they havo, tho people of tho wholo valley should contribute to finish tho new Jetty nnd send some ono to Wash ington ns a delegate to tho rlvors and harbors congress to work with tho thrco dologntes from Coos Bay.
