Mr. Taylor says that the change was made to give him more room for the other branches of his business. Called to Frisco. G. C. Merrltt, of the Cape Blanco station was in Marshfleld today with his wife who has been called to San Francisco by the serious illness of her mother. She expected to take tho M. F. Plant, but will probably proceed over land. To Build Road. A meeting of the residents of Road District No. 1 is being held at the Ross Inlet school house this afternoon to determine how groat a road tax will be levied in that district. Though the Coos Bay bar shoaled badly dur ing tho stormy period in October it has begun to scour out again to a good depth, according to Captain. B. W. Olsen, of the Alliance. The skipper says that as ho was coming out over the bar on this trip ho took careful soundings. Ho found tho channel to bo about 2G feet deep at high tide, making It 17 feet at low water. In tho center of tho bar tho captain reports that several small lumps are about all remaining of the shoal formed somo weeks ago. He predicts that these will soon be carried away at the rate tho scour ing process is progressing. Tho Alliance complotod an unusu ally quick round trip passage, as she did not get away from Portland until last Sunday morning. In addition to a quantity of lumber for Eastern shlpmont she brought 100 tubs of butter and other farm produce. She also brought a largo number of pas sengors. The Breakwater sailed from North Bend about 3 o'clock this afternoon for Portland, carrjlng a largo num ber of passengers and a. good cargo of freight. A large portion of her cargo was coal. Ho has found little relief thus far. F. A. HAINES leaves today for South Dakota points and qther cities in tho mid-west on a business trip. Ho has been making somo investi gations in the Coos Bay country for a syndlcato which Is planning to Invest heavily hero, and It is understood that his report will bo favorable. W. II. NORVAL of RIverton, loft on the Breakwater for Portland on a business trip. Mr. Norval Is man ager for the firm of Potter-Norval of Portland, who Is operating a saw mill at that place. Ho states that ho has been running for tho past three weeks and has enough con tracts ahead to keep tho mill busy until spring. ORGANIZE AT COQUILLE. Capt. and Mrs. Leneve, of Coqullle, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Reichcrt the past few days, left this morning for a short stay at Allegany. Henry I. Reese, who has been head sawyer at tho Porter and North Bend mills for several years, has resigned and will take a position with tho Johnson Lumber Company near Co qullle. Captain and Mrs. Schmehl cele brated the 18th anniversary of their wedding on Tuesday. About twenty five of their friends enjoyed the even ing with them. A delicious supper was served.
