Robert Baker of Portland, who has been visiting Frank Rogers, killed a largo cougar on tho Rogers' ranch tho other day. Tho varmint had been killing many of tho Rogers' sheep when It was located. Mr. Baker's bullet knocked out ono of tho brute's teeth. They are having tho carcass mounted. Thrown By Horse. Mrs. Charles Masters was thrown by her mount while riding horseback at tho Mast ers ranch, near Sumner, yesterday. At first, it was feared that sho had been badly hurt, but Dr. Houseworth who was called from Marshfield, found that a few bruises and scratches were tho extent of them. Returns From Camas Valley Q. F. Winchester and wlfo havo re turned from a vacation trip to Camas Valley where they visited Mrs. Winchester's parents. Mr. Win chester did not got any elk but se cured a few deer, pheasants and other gamo. Ho reports that Fred Nolson Is hunting hard but when Mr. Winchester left had not suc ceeded in bagging any big game, al though ho was looking for anything from bear to a trout.
