The Nann Smith last evening made the trip up the bay to her slip at the C. A. Smith mill, at extreme low tide without encountering a single shoal. The trip was a great surprise to local navigators who did not be lieve it would be possible for the big lumber carrier to do It, but Capt. Nelson demonstrated the fact that ho know his vessel and also know the bay. The Nann Smith had a slow trip up, being without cargo and having to tow a lumber schooner, the Oakland, up against a stiff headwind and heavy sea. Alllimco Sails. YOAKAM, deputy stato dairy inspector, arrived today via Roseburg from tho State Fair where she had charge of the dairy exhibit. Delay Bridge Building. It is un officially announced that tho comple tion of the elevated roadway between Marshfield and North Bond will be delayed another year by the Mena sha Woodenware Company appeal ing from the award of damages re cently made in tho circuit court. Tho verdict in the circuit court was for about $300 or flOC more than the county road viewers allowed the company. Until the litigation is ended, no work will bo dono on the MR. DAVIS of tho Coos Bay Bakery, aud wife, returned from a ton days visit to Portland and Junc tion City. They made tho trip over land to Roseburg. L. A. LILJEQVIST, deputy prose cuting attorney, went to Myrtle Point today to Investigate some al leged violations of tho liquor law and a violation of the game law. J. O. STEMMLER, tho Myrtle Point real estato man, was in tho city today on business and reports that the recent heavy frost caused con siderable loss to the ranchers ot that section. COUNTY COMMISSIONER DEMENT of Myrtle Point, was In the city today to join Judge Hall and Com missioner Anderson on a tour of inspection over the roads in this vicinity. . NEWS OF COOS BAY'S SICK AND INJURED Poison Dogs. Citizens of West Marshfield are aroused over tho poi soning of dogs in that section. Some miscreant, they allege, has placed poisoned food out for the canines and is killing the harmless pet dogs'. Among tho latest to lose pet dogs was R. F. Williams'. Noble who recently returned from a deer hunt to Eel Lake, says there are a largo number of bear in that section. He and his party secured four or five deer and got several shots at bear but were unable to kill any. Tho bear are quite easily fqund In tho huckleberry thickets. Rniso Building. In order to con form with the now street grade, tho Capt. Donaldson building at tho northeast corner of Broadway and 'C streets, Is being raised about eighteen inches. Tho building has eighty feet frontage on 'C street and sixty feet on Broadway. A plank sidewalk will be put In around it. Broke Quarantine. J. O. Stemm ler of Myrtle Point, who was hero today, reported that quite a stir was caused In Myrtle Point Saturday night by Wm. W. Klnnlcutt, whoso homo was quarantined for scarlet fever, leaving and attending a gather ing down town. Ho was arrested and taken back homo. There has been talk of prosecuting him further. View New Road. Judge John F. Hall and Commissioner E. Andorson left today to view the Golden Falls road which is practically cpmploted. When all of tho connectlpns of tho road are comploted, tho highway will furnish a now stage lino west from Coos Bay to Drain which Is said to be more sconlc and a bettor roadway than tho present one. According to tho Electrician, tho committee appointed in connection with rebuilding of the Russian navy has decided to utilize tho public con tributions which havo been sub scribed for tho purpose of rebuilding tho warships in establishing wireless telegraph stations at eighteen points on tho Baltic coast line.
