The Marshfleld city council will meet tonight to tahe up street improvement matters nnd also to pass on the resolutior )'t troduced last week providing for un Increase in the maximum indebted ness of the city. The latter will have to be done by amending the charter and floating a bond Issue. A. N. AV. Club-to 3Icct. The A. N. W. Club which has been taking a vacation, will resume Its regular meetings Thursday when Mrs. F. A. Golden will entertain them. Tho meeting will be devoted to routine business, largely, although the pro posed fountain will probably bo brought up for discussion again. Subscribers to Meet. The sub scribers to the fund for maintaining the Chamber of Commerce the com ing year, will meet at the Chamber of Commerce tonight to arrango for renewing tho organization. G. W. Carleton, a member of tho commit tee solociting the subscriptions, is desirous of having all who pledged contributions to bo present. Catch Big Fish. H. K. Flom, Sunday, landed one of the largest salmon trout that has been hooked on Coos river lately. It was about eighteen inches long. Trout Ashing Is said to bo very good, especially far up Coos River where tho best spots for flying fishing are found. With Mr. Flom, Sunday, were his wife. Dr. and Mrs. Hayes and Harry Mene feo. Benefit For School. About $33 was realized from a "Shadow Basket social," given by tho Eastslde school at tho school house tho other even ing. The proceeds are to bo used In purchasing curtains. About fifty were present and the evening made a most enjoyable ono. The affair was conducted by tho teachers, Mrs. R. Bovler and MIbs Franz assisted by the patrons. Report Wns Incorrect. Wm, Cox, a well-known Marshfleld citizen, re turned today from Coquillo where he has been for several days during tho illness and death of his father. Mr. Cox says that the report from Co quillo that his father's death was hastened by worry over tho outcome of the damago suit in which ho was involved was incorrect, his parent dying six hours beforo tho verdict was returned. Mr. Cox says his fath er had been 111 for somo time and that for several weeks it was known that tho Illness would soon terminate fatally. In tho lawsuit, Mr. Cox re ceived a verdict for only $1,000 for the injuries he sustained in tho wreck on the local railway several months ago and frionds who aro fnmlllar with tho case bolievo ho was entitled to more. 1 Personal Notes f C. Rogers' stone quarry on Coos River, was in Marshfleld today en route to North Inlet where ho will make his future home. . A. They will bo absent about two weeks. Tho fishing season oponed last Wednesday in Wedderburn and four teen men drew the largo solno. Tho haul netted 207 flsh, mostly lino, largo chlnook, while there were per haps twenty sllversldes and a very few steelheads. A. M. Barcus tbok up his duties as manager of the cannery nnd fore man of outside work last Saturday. Ho comes to Wedderburn from North Bend, where ho had been engaged with a sawmill company for a year past. Ho has been a resldont of Ore gon but a year, having como from tho Atlantic states. Mr. Barcus is a machinist of experience and is fast becoming acquainted with tho can nory work which Is now to him. Ho has a family now living on a homo stend which they located In tho ter ritory near Asa Carey's last spring. John S. Hume, who had been su perintendent of the cannery for tho past year, resigned last week nnd was succeeded on Saturday by A. M. Barcus who lately camo from North Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Humo left Wed derburn on Tuesday, bound for Seat tle. They will spend a few days in Marshfleld.
