NLESS EVERYONE is In great and grave error, the coming South ern Oregon District Fair will bring the largest crowds to Coos Bay on August 2G to 29, that theso cities have ever held. It is up to rail of us to put our best foot forward while the strangers are within our gates. They should not only be given the glad hand with character istic Coos Day hospitality but we should see to it that our appearanco . is Biich that It will create a favorable Impression. To do this It will bo necessary for Marshfield to have another "clean up" clay. The ladles . iOf the A. N. W. Club did such splendid service and demonstrated their . capability and capacity to handle this work last spring that The Times 1 has already suggested that thero was need of another campaign. No thing has been done, howover. Possibly the ladles think It Is the men's ,turn to do somothlng In the "clean up" lino and The Times Is Inclined to agree with them. Certnlnly something should be done. Altho only a few days remain it is not yet too late to do tho work that Is so essen tial. It will seem a bit Incongruous to have decorations and lights In evi dence and dirty ill kept streets and unkempt yards. It seems to The Times that it s up tp tho busy and versatile Secretary of tho Cham . nor of Commerce to stand sponsor for this movement and do something and "DO JT NOW." Tho mayor might bo Induced to Issue a proclama tion appointing a "clean up" day for concerted action Is an absoluto necessity t secure the best results, It may bo necessary to raise some money for payment of garbage teams also. Tho Times Is aware that recently it has been a caso of dig, dig, with business men and citizens until Sbey aro getting a bit weary. Let us make one moro little dig, howover, a-nd this tlmo a dig of real dirt that will make our streets clean and tready for tho rocoptlon of our visitors next week. When wo extend tho glad hand to our guests let it not bo a "dirty &and." VOTING CONTEST COUPON NOT GOOD AFTF. R. Coos Bay hospitality has been famous since the days when Mllllcoma's -wigwam hold a whlo opon wolcomo to the wandering stranger, but In atheso latter days tho avorago stranger requires somothlng moro than a rtopeo and a blanket or tho open sky. It has been urged as argument sagalnst convention and association meotlngs being hold on Coos Bay that xwe lacked hotul and rooming accommodations. When our present hnnd-t-aome $75,000 hotel now In course of construction is completed It will bo vaufllciont answer to tho outsldo nnd Insldo "knockers," but that will tniit relieve tho present situation. Every resldont of tho city should fi-el a personal responsibility In caring for visitors during Fair week. There will doubtless bo many dlstligulshed persons who will lie prop erly guests In private homes but It should bo our pride thnt tho hum blest visitor Is also properly cared for. Everyono with ovon n sparo bed .should lenvo their names at tho Chamber of Commerce so that whon needed thero will bo kuowledgo of all possible accommodations. Thero Is albo the question of pa.viuont for thoso accommodations. Tho Times Is certain that thero will bo no disposition to boost prices or hold-up peoplo who nro our guosts. Wo should treat theso pooplo not 'Only fairly but generously. Glvo them tho glad hand and mnko thorn glad thoy camo and want to como nqnln. If thero Is nny disposition by anyono to take advantago of tho situation It will bo promptly nnd prop erly frowned down upon by citizens generally and tho guilty parties dis credited and mndo to feol tho ponalty of tholr guilt and greed. or otherwise on or before oxplrat Ion date.
