the city recorder yesterday and It is
understood that the reason he did
not was that he has practically closed
negotiations for the purchase of the
Pacific States Telephone Company's
exchange here.

Brown and Miss Viola M. Gouley
were united in marriage, Rev. E. B.
Jones, officiating. Mr. Brown and
Miss Gouley are both residents of
Myrtle Point. Mr. Brown Is a drug
gist by profession and formerly lived
in Connecticutt. Immediately after
tho ceremony the young people left
Coquille on their wedding tour.

AT THE THEATRE.
Last night at tho Masonic Opera
House, Georgia Harper and her com
pany appeared in the comedy drama
"All tho Comforts of Home." The
house was well filled and the roars
of laughter from the audience was
strong proof that they enjoyed the
play to the fullest extent. Miss Har
per was charming in her character
and waB well received by tho audi
ence. She has captured tho public
with her personality and fine acting.
Joseph Detrick was superb in last
night's play and camo in for a good
share of tho applause. In fact all
the characters were well taken and
the performance was one of the most
pleasing ever given hero. "The Two
Orphan," De Enery's great drama,
tho story of which is familiar to most
all theatre patrons will be tho play

MRS. A. R. TEN BROOK and her
two children left yesterday for her
homo in Klamath Falls. She has
been spending several weeks at the
homes of her brothers, Jas. T.
Hall and John F. Hall.
FRANK M. MARHOFFER, the Bay
City Merchant, left on tho Eureka
for his old homo at Crescent City,
Cal., for a two weeks visit with
his parents. While at Crescent
City, Mr. Marhoffer will look after
his interests and the "111 stock."
ELIJAH SMITH, head of the South
ern Oregon Company, who Is on
route from Boston to Coos Bay to
spend several months hero looking

ing a vacation, is now in Portland.

J. J. TOOLE, a prominent capitalist
of Southern Idaho, arrived here to
day for a short visit at the home
of P. A. Devers. Mr. Toolo and
Mr. Devers were formerly asso
ciated In the banking business in
Idaho. This Is Mr. Toole's first
visit to Coos Bay. While ho
becomes with a feeling of great
