Hawthorne's Estate. - ' (By" Associated Press.) PORTLAND, Ore, July 18. Whitney L. Bolso, manager of tho Hawthorne estato and a promlnenl clubman, lawyer and political man, was arrested this afternoon on five -warrants charging embezzlement from tho Hawthorno estato. The amount Involved Is said to exceed $100,000 and may reach $200,000. Tho complaint was sworn to by Mrs. Catherine Collins, a slster-ln-law of Bolso, and one of tho Haw thorne heirs. Bolso was arrested In his office. Ho was not taken to prison but was permitted tp search for bondsmen, his bail having been fixed in municipal court at $20,000. Estiiic AVorth Millions. Tho complaints specify in detail a large number of misappropriations of funds from the vast estate of the late J. C. Hawthorne, valued at sev eral lnllion dollars and of which Boise has had supervision for years. Mrs. Boise Is a sister of the com plainant and a daughter of Hawj- IUU111U. "I can't make any statement," said Boise, "until, I have, a phance to ex nmlno tho complaints and ascertain what tho specific charges are. I nm willing to admit that I have had some trouble with certain heirs of tho estato, but at no time did I think any such action would be taken." ' (By Associated Press.) ST. LOUIS, July 18. The body of tho woman found in the Lagoon City of Panama and M. F. Plant Sail' For Portland and 'Frisco. The City of Panama and the M. F. Plant sailed at 3 o'clock this after noon for Portland and San Francis co, respectively. Both had fair pas sengers lists and fairly good freight cargoes for this season of the year. The M. F. Plant arrived in last eVening from San Francisco, head winds and a. heavy fog delayed her slightly. She had a large cargo of fruit and green stuff for Coos Bay and vicinity, nine tons of apricots and a large number of watermeloas being included. Men from the fleet were entertained ashore by all sorts of amusements and a native 'feast and a dance by the 'native girls. First, they en countered a sovere storm while com ing up on the Enterprise and the gasoline schooner was compelled to put In at Port Orford and let the pas sengers off. Then they took the 3tage for Bandon and en route the .horses ran away, seriously Injuring the driver whose arm was broken in" two places. In addition to the rough sea, th6 engine of the Enterprise balked and for a time, there were misgivings as tp the ability of making Port Orford. However, ,the woman were heroic In the face of the dangers of the high seas.
