Sain In Nevada. A business note received from Charles M. Sain, a former Coos Bay newspaper man, locates him at Coppereld, Nevada, where he is Interested In some min ing ventures. Homer In Today. The schooner Homer is due Into Coos Bay today from 'Frisco. She has not been ply ing out of here very frequnetly since she had the M. F. Plant's run while the latter was laid up last winter. Reconstruct Dikes. At a confer ence between C. J. Millis and Coun cllmen Nasburg and Nelson yester day, Mr. Minis agreed to rebuild the dikes along the railway property's water front. The dikes were cut badly by the winter tides and unless repaired soon were In danger of be ing entirely destroyed. Special Train to Funeral. The Beaver Hill coal miners chartered a special train to bring them to Marshfield yesterday afternoon to at tend the funeral of Antony Rlzaldl. About forty came down with the re mains which were Interred in the Catholic cemetery. Inspect County Roads. Judge F. Hall and E. Anderson, county com missioner, have gone to Coqulllo to begin the annual Inspection of roads. They will drive over all of the county roads In tho Coqulllo val ley. It will probably take them a week. The inspection will enable them to outline further improve ments. Cuso of Blood Poisoning. J. W. Maxwell who has been working with a clearing crew on tho W. H. Noble ranch at Ten Mile, bruised his hand badly with nn ax handle while at work the other day and resulted In a rather severe case of blood poison ing. Ho came to Marshfield yester day for medical treatment and tho injured member was dressed and It is hoped there may be no serious results. Alumni Meeting. Professor Gol den was somewhat disappointed at not being able to attend the meeting of tho West Virginia University which was held in Wheeling this past week. His desire to attend was In creased by tho fact that principal ad dress was to be delivered by his plass mate Rev. H. H. "Buckshot" Is still In Jail pending a decision. Mr. Ferry's In juries arc not serious. Builds New Launch. F. E. Boden Is building a twenty-four launch which he is designing for speed pur poses and unless he Is disappointed ho will havo the fastest craft on the Bay. For Elks Lodge Here. Prelliill nary steps are being taken by a num ber of Coos Bay Elks to secure an Elks Lodge for Marshfield, the B. P. O. E. requires a population of 5,000 In all towns where they grant charters, but It Is believed that the recent vote will satisfy the grand lodge that Marshfield Is entitled to a lodge. Hoos Hoos at North Bend. The Installation of the Coos Bay Hoo Hoo Lodge will take place at North Bend Monday evening, unless present plans are interfered with. A number of prominent Hoo Hoos are expected In on the Alliance to conduct the installation. It Is expected that about forty charter members will bo Initiated Into the mysteries of Hoo Iloolsm. Improve Telephone Lines. L. R. Robertson, local manager of tho Pa cific States Telephone Company, has been notified that John W. Gllkyson of Portland, division superintendent of the company will reach Coos Bay on the Breakwater Thursday night to spend some time preparing plans for rebuilding and Improving the company's Marshfield exchange and all of tho lines In tho Coos Bay country. Tom James III. Tom James of North Bend, Is recovering from pto maine poisoning with which ho was afflicted while fishing at Ten Mllo the past week. His sickness Is at tributed to some canned stuff that was served for supper. Dr. Gale was called from North Bend to at tend him. This Is the third time that Mr. James lias been afflicted with ptomaine poisoning and ho vows that starvation looks good to him bosldo canned goods now.
